ALL QUESTIONS & COMMENTS REGARDING NEW SOFTWARE GO HERE

.... but the old one will still be lost.

Not necessarily. Probably, but not necessarily. It will not be anytime so but we saved the data base and can add them later as time and shillings allow. Just will not be anytime soon.

.....Butch, once you make a post you have already seen it, so not considered a new post by the software."

This does not make sense to me. When I post to a thread, does it show up as a "new post" to all other users? But not to me because I have already seen it? If nothing else, I use my posts as a sort of "timestamp", and that is useful to me. Further, I think that I should check in the mornings what I wrote last night...(just an age thing), and while I can do that by searching, it was better the other way.
You have it right, Mike. The assumption seems to be that you will have already seen your own posts, so they're not new to you. However, once in new posts, "recent posts" shows up in the top right and that will allow you to see all recent posts, including your own.

I'm trying not to be a pain, I really am. Am I the only one that cant find the "recent posts" in the "top Right"? Top right where? Under my profile/avatar? There is no recent posts anywhere that I can find.

I've covered this somewhere already - anyway it's currently only in two places. When you click New Posts it is here:

recentposts1.webp

HOWEVER - if you do not have any NEW POSTS posts and you click NEW POSTS you will see a page that looks like this:
recentposts2.webp

So those are the two places to get to the Recent Posts link. BUT, as I have already stated in this thread, I will get a link moved here as soon as I can. . . . .

recentposts3.webp

To help us all out, I'm going to start a bug thread separate from this questions and comments thread where we can keep an updated lists of actual problems and bugs so I do not have to continue to type the same things in different ways. This will allow me to move some questions there and remove or delete redundant ones in it. Thanks for all the input and questions keep them coming (but please try to read this thread thoroughly before you ask a question).

PS Butch you aren't being a pain. New software sucks. It's like your wife moving the cheese from the meat drawer after years of you knowing where it was, to now keeping it in the butter compartment. Note to wives: we like our cheese in the meat drawer so please do not move it.

I sure appreciate the questions and the time that Kevin and??? have put in. Us computer dunderheads(me) are especially slow at catching on to new stuff. PS- I am still looking for the knob to turn the channel on the TV so she had better not move the cheese!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spoke to a new member (ed palumbo) earlier today via email and he had said he was having a hard time getting onto the forum after the upgrade. He admitted that he is all thumbs on the computer and hadn't tried since that time. Is there members who are still having difficulties getting on? I forgot to tell him to remove all his cookies but I will go back and do that now.

Clear cookies and clear his cache. If that doesn't work let me know and I'll send him a new password. That has worked every time that the few times the c&c clearing hasn't.

This question is with respect to conversations.

Since the new software has been released and is alive, I have had a number of conversations.

Since they are over and subject been completed, I would like to delete them. I have looked various places , checked various boxes and I can do a lot of things with old conversations but I don't see how to delete them. They are just carbage now and I would like to get rid of some of them.

So what am I missing??

The equivalent to "Delete PM" is "Leave Conversation". It will remove that conversation form your account. There is no button that says "Delete". This is because conversations are not the same as PM's. It's like a slow version of a chat where you can remove your chat log but the other member or members can keep the copy of theirs. So just select "Leave Conversation.

Ok that works. "Leave conversation" is not intuitively a "Delete" for older conversations. Definitely needs to be in a crib sheet.

Thanks Kevin!!! I kept looking at the extreme upper right, and I would scroll down so quickly after hitting new posts, I never saw it in that bar. Again, Sorry to be a pain. I along with everyone else appreciate your time and your ridiculously generous patience.

I agree completely - a lot of this is not intuitive - it's even worse in the admin control panel. It's like Greek compared to our old software. I like this front end better but I liked the old admin control panel much better. It was like working on a 1969 Camaro with a small block, compared to this which is like working on a communications satellite. I have several lists, and changing some of the terminology is one list by itself. I'll get the changes done not long after we have gotten totally used to the new stuff lol. BTW, conversations are automatically deleted from the system once every participant has "left the conversation".

Honestly Butch you aren't being a pain. I like change less than any of you, and while I already love this new software better than the old, there's plenty of things I do *not* like about it so having to deal with it, that's the source of my frustration.

Does anyone use the "Watched Forums" or "Watched Threads" features on the menu bar? I'm going to move them elsewhere unless some of you are using them. If you do not use them I don't need to hear from you - only if you use them.

I can remember working on cars back in the 50s and 60s. You did not need a degree in computer science to upgrade the carb or tune the timing. Now days, the idea of a shade tree mechanic is archaic.

But we sure could make those babies move back then..

I think you said Kevin that you are working on getting the links below our signatures working, is that still a work in progress ?
