@daniscool Maple does have some exceptional figure at times. I’m probably a guitar makers nightmare, I cut up the big pieces to make bowls and boxes

I make big things sometimes also like my waterfall Bubinga dinning room table. I’m trying to eventually make something out of 1,000 species and can’t have a thousand of these unfortunately
That’s really good. I have to check cropps in Germany. They are the most likely stuff to get this kind of stuff. Also one thousand species is a lot. I guess a large part would be domestic?

@daniscool I’m at about 830 now, and I’d say only about 25-30% are domestic. I have about 200 Australian species not including wood samples. A bunch from Africa and South America also. Europe and Antarctica are probably the only continents I don’t have atleast 50 species from. I’ll have to go through my list and add a new column for continent/region of origin. It’s kind of crazy the system/network I’ve established. I’ve been trying for years to get blue Ash (Fraxinus quadrangulata) a tree that grows on the other side of the same state as I live in, but can’t get any. Took me years to find Ohio Buckeye also. I live in Ohio. Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever even seen a Buckeye tree
. The United States doesn’t have as diverse of a tree species population compared to some of these other Areas. Don’t quote me on these numbers, but I heard the U.S. only has around 800-1000native tree species. I have no idea where that number comes from. But Australia has 20,000+ supposedly. And South America even more that that. I’ve started expanding my domestic network more, so I’m hoping to bulk up my domestic list. Shipping is generally cheaper 
While it may not look like it on your average map Australia is almost as big as Europe. This is because of the projection we use. It also has a much larger diversity of climates. @daniscool i guess the thinking is the last iceage wiped out some species and limited the biodiversity as a result. There is a wider variety in the Southern half of the U.S. Flordia, airizona, California, Texas and Hawaii probably account for about half my domestic species
Hi @Friedrich9 your story is amazing! And incredibly motivating! I must say the dining room table is absolutely gorgeous! I hope you can meet your goal of the thousand piece project. What a wonderful idea. And once it’s done, you will have so many stories to tell about it, and each piece of wood in it, its history, where you got it, etc. Nice!
As for the rosewood, please cut it in half for me. I did see your mention of the angle, so cutting in half like you suggest would work for me. I’m pretty sure I’ll be interested in those additional spindles but want to read up on them today and will get back to you. p.s. my order is getting big enough that I hope we can split it into two halves for payment. I will PM you later on this. But for now, I’m going to have some fun reading up on the new selections you just posted. Thanks!

@SA-Motors Yeah, I’m excited for the project, I need to start making stuff instead of just buying wood
.We can split it in 2 if you’d like. You’re in North Carolina so the shipping won’t be too bad. I’m just guessing $20-$25 to ship half? Honestly not much more to ship all of it I believe. Hopefully less but we will see. Let me know on the others. The Myall and Supplejack are both way denser than water, so while they are not much over or just about exactly 1.25 they don’t flex much or expand and contract much with moisture changes. They are so stable they don’t need stabilized to make knife handles. But I’ll probably get more western myall in the future, I could try to request a thicker piece. But that’d likely be a bit of a ways out, maybe a year or 2 even. Unless this shipping and tariffs get too crazy. But let me know, and feel free to ask any questions you’d like
Hi @Friedrich9 I was able to read up on these new selections! The only one I'm still contemplating is the western myall. Its such a beautiful piece though! I think I could make the thickness work, but I've also been trying to stay in the $50 or less zone per piece, and stretch to $100. For now lets add the ones below to the list, and if you don't mind can I take a few more days to think about the western myall? Thanks for agreeing to let me split the payment when the time comes. For now, how about we keep the tally open for a couple more weeks in case you find some more pieces. will this work for you?

@SA-Motors with the exception of a few others I think I’ve dug out nearly everything, I may have one last batch. I’ll start cutting these new ones. Did you want to wait another week or two before we start shipping? Did you want to split the order or just the payment and ship together? Shipping shouldn’t be too bad since we are relatively close to each other.

By the way, when you cut me a spindle width strip from a longer board (such as 25 to 35 inches long), are you then cutting the strip to my length, or are you including the whole length? @SA-Motors thanks for the message. It depends on the board for what I do with it. I try to optimize what I get out of each board. I try to add a few inches onto your minimum length. Like the northern silky was I think 30”. It was 9” wide, so I cut a 9” length off the whole board to make myself a bowl blank. Which left your blank around 21”. I can’t remember the exact measurements but that’s an example of what I do. My goal is typically to keep your blanks 20+ inches long to give you a few inches extra. Doesn’t always work out, but usually does

@SA-Motors hey I found these spindle blanks and figured I’d offer them to you, they are big enough to make your spindles. One is another Gidgee, one is another Ringy rosewood/spear wattle. And I found a nice 20ish” long and 1.5” square. Unfortunately I don’t know for certain if it’s Dalbergia retusa or Dalbergia granadillo. But If you are interested in any of them, I was looking for $25 a piece.

@SA-Motors ok no worries on the other pieces. Consider the western myall yours. I keep it aside. One nice thing about me moving slow is stuff stays available for a long time

@i did join looking for certain species. Luckily I was able to find a nice 8’ long 6” wide 7/4 board
