Finally floated it! I wish it was a little bigger but if it was I would need a trailer, can't have it both ways. It rows very easily and it's easy to keep it straight, but I can pretty much turn it around with one stroke. I'm not a small person but I rowed it right up to the shore in 3" of water. I didn't test it too hard because the ice went out less than a week ago, stayed close to shore and tried not to rock the boat.

That's a pretty little boat! Looks great floating there on the lake.

Congrats! Record time for any boat build I’ve ever seen! Now enjoy it! Chuck
It was a fun project and because it took most of the space in my shop I had to finish it or become a full time mini lathe pen turner 😄. The plans are advertised as well suited for the first time boat builder. Henry's duck boat has a lot of similarities but is larger and requires more advanced skills.

Have had to take a little time off the boat... planned a few days around an Easter trip to visit our son, but came back with a tweaked knee so laid off the week following. Spent the time beginning to clean up and sharpen a planer, then developed a paronychia (finger infection) on my dominant hand (the finger @Mike1950 uses most frequently for communication). Had it lanced and drained, which relieved a lot of pressure, but figured it would be a good idea to lay off this week, too, to let it start healing before aggravating it too much with epoxy, glass, and sanding.

So, 1 planer led to several... and to sharpening a saw for the first time.

No. 8/7, 5, 4 & 3?

Doug just send him all of your tools to get sharpened- he has times on his hands as it appears he must have tuned and sharpened his block planes. Did you use a rock?

Diamond plates, actually. And some cowhide.

Planes look great. Now that you know how, can I send you my saws to sharpen?
It wasn't bad, even borderline fun. And really doesn't take long. This saw was pretty well worn down and dull and appeared to have been sharpened poorly before so took a little more time, but maybe 20 minutes. I need to sharpen a larger bandsaw, but want to clean it up some, first. I can see now that, after the initial effort, periodically sharpening and setting saws will be quick and easy. I highly recommend it.

Planning to get back at it this coming week. Knee pain is gone, finger swelling gone, hopefully all will be well.

Finally back on the boat this week. Finished taping all the exterior seams, and building up the slightly low spot near the stern. Scraped and sanded that work this morning. I have a touch more to do in 2 spots, but pretty much there. So, with luck and good health, should get the rest of the exterior epoxied and draped next week.

Coming along good, sanding and scraping is not a lot of fun. I didn't do as much as I should have, it's a little rough if you look close, doesn't hurt it's functionality though. I keep thinking about another boat, perhaps something made without plywood and epoxy. I've started hoarding lumber that I feel has potential, I also have some trees that I might cut and mill for that purpose. If it happens it will be a year or more away, my shop is too small for what I want to build so it will have to be a summer time job. That gives me a year to talk myself out of it 😂

Re:finish quality - it's a duck boat so I'm not going to obsess over it too much. If I can keep my periodic perfectionist pathology at bay!

Hope you do, would love to see it.
