Boat building

Excellent job with the pre-planning and test fitting layout options. That's looking like a true custom built boat now. Do you use a dog when you hunt? And will you have capacity to run a little heater - might be nice on those chilly damp mornings.

I'm not too smart, but smart enough not to reveal where I plan to stash the good stuff.

Hope to get it in the water by early Fall... duck season at the latest.

Yes on a dog - she'll either be on the front deck or on the small deck ahead of the motor. It's rarely cold enough to need a heater around here unless you're staying out and still all day... but I'll probably keep a little propane heater in it just in case.
 
Battery hold-downs completed and installed, sole/hull joints glassed and faired, and final epoxy coat applied to sole, bulkheads, flotation compartments, bilge, and lower sides. The same areas primed and with a good base coat - gloss poly in the areas that will be covered (for easier cleaning and maintenance and better water protection), flat Parkers in the cockpit area.

Now, off for our road trip to ME, CT, MA, and NY. On return will get shelves completed and installed and foam cut for installation in flotation compartments, then can finally get to work installing the decking I've prepped. I'd originally planned to get my wiring run before putting on the deck, but since I moved the runs out closer to the hull sides I'll wait until after decking is installed, fileted, sealed, and painted. Still a lot to do, but seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

I haven't yet located a good used trailer and motor - if they aren't located soon after our return I'll have to get moving in ordering new.
 
How heavy is it getting? I fiberglassed a little hydro. It got heavy, but it did not leak like a sieve like when I got it.

My father in law had a classic Chris-Craft and when we pulled it out of winter storage and in the lake for summer, she leaked like a sieve for a little while until the wood got wet and swelled.

This was plywood. Caulked seams. I am sure to keep light. It was fast but scary. If you were not moving fast it took on water fast.
Wood boats are best left in water. Not really possible in northern climates

I look forward to weighing it when done - I want to say it should be about 300 lbs when complete (before motor), but I may be mis-remembering.

The ply/epoxy stitch-and-glue build is fully encapsulated, so should not absorb water/swell.

We have a dozen marinas on Lake Wallenpaupark. You can often pick up used trailers cheap, well often less than $500. Most lack tags, that is why some are only $100.
 
Henry, your attention to detail really shows. Excellent work thus far. Looking forward to seeing it completed and on the water/in use!
 
More simple here, the marina gives you a paper saying it was abandoned and you apply for a tag replacement. Some of them have vin numbers. They trace the vin, contact the owner and present a storage bill and the owner usually gladly signs the trailer over. There are also dozens for sale. Marinas put the boats in the water and in storage for owners and use the marina trailers. So many boat owners have no use for a trailer.

Here they allow registered towing companies to scap only if it is totaled beyond reasonable repair, without title. Otherwise, the owner needs to be present with paperwork.

Grrr, you know what i think. Also know I am biting my youngest( you have to love spellcheck) tongue to keep my mouth shut. GRRRRRRRR
I find spellcheck is getting more intrusive and much dumber.... so another grrrrrrr

I changed my plan of attack again, deciding to go ahead with full wiring and testing while I had open access. I'll post some pictures when that is done, probably in the couple of days.
