Brisket Knife Handle

Despite my better judgement, the mesquite burl block pictured in an earlier post is on its way to TN. Mike will confirm it is what he wants for this project, then we'll complete a trade or payment, to be determined.

It's thick enough he might have a blank or two left over after he cuts his knife scales - of course, that assumes he actually does something with it.

I'm laughing really hard here because holy moly I have a couple pieces of wood that should be pens by now ... but I don't know if I have the heart to let them get cut up!

To celebrate the shipment and the impending arrival, I am celebrating!

Now, don't get all starry-eyed and think that I've gone all catywampus and all and converted or something! But when there ain't nothing else in the office and somebody else did all the hard work (even on a BGE without a PID or a fan) - well.......beggars can't be choosers!

But come to think about it - this Nashville cum Atlanta, cum Plano, TX barbecue is sometimes better than what I can get around here. Went to a place that has been open a year longer than I've been here and had some brisket there two weeks ago that was absolutely awful, and the pork wasn't much better - although the blackberry cobbler was great. Maybe it's why I haven't been there in 30+ years.

Before you prematurely celebrate and change to your tidy whities, I just want to bring this to your attention- I just keep hearing samba and bossa nova. Mas que nada just keep repeating itself like an endless loop. I had to go over the other side of Brooklyn to find this. I am telling you, have your bib and senior diapers ready, because I assure you with you downing them chips and bbq…….it is going to be a mess! This piece is it! It even has the wrinkles (broken mottled) and color of brisket!

Okay, before we go any further, I did check out what the “civil penalties” are for such acts carried. It is $ 100………heck they only charge you $ 50 unlawful exposure (don’t get any idea Li’l Mikey). Begs the question whether the whole board worth the $ 100 penalty? :ponder::unknown::impatient:…….8’ long section, 6” wide and 1-1/8” thick……..that is a lot of knife handles :sarcastic: Just saying. What is wrong with our system- why they put wrinkled stuff in public places outdoors, when they should be inside!

That stain!!! From the last stabbing???

Lots of rules at yankee parks, but at least it does not outlaw - legal dumping!! That's a relief!

All said and done - that is a purdy piece!

I had a guitar back and side exactly what is pictured! It was super dense, had a glassy surface and has this chocolate heartwood with a hint of cordoban. It is long gone.

Hey Bill. Do you turn pens? I'd be most interested in a trade for some craftsmanship (I will provide the kit and possibly wood).

Btw, this board is about 19" long.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

G
For my master set, I use the gun metal Rollester:

And for my other set of highly figured, burl, and spalted woods, I use the Broadwell Nouveau Sceptre:

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Hey hey hey - take this pen discussion to the Pen thread. This thread is all about whether Mike actually has a brisket knife to re-handle or if it's just a not-so-clever ploy to hoard more wood. With a side thread of whether we can get Arn arrested for defacing public property.

I love the Rollester! It's my everyday carry.

Curious though, if you turned those why would you need me to turn one for you?
I'm not a wood turner. I mean I've turned a few pens in a Rockler woodworking class and during a private lesson, but I don't turn for my two collections. Down the road, however, I would like to turn my own ...

But for now I'm more of a wood and wood pen collector. My collection is mostly about the wood, but I'm proud to show off the work of turners from across the United States and even overseas.

I'm kind of a wood hoarder myself.

This is one of the first pens I made and my everyday carry. YCB with walnut celtic cross. Not as nice as it once was but it writes nice and it's small and light to carry.

Hi Jack! :sarcastic: It is a good one though as you are getting our Li’l Mikey really excited to see figured hardwood……..and he said he was living it wrong? It must be as good as “Fantasy Island”…………or perhaps “Gilligan’s Island” with the movie star and Mary Ann…….
