Christmas Ornament Exchange 2025

'Twas the month before Christmas, when all through the shop
Not a creature was stirring, except Lil Mikey – he was nonstop

He had been all snuggly and warm laying back in his recliner,
When all of sudden he knew he had to do something finer.

With the Ornament Challenge on his feeble mind,
He was determined not to fall behind!

He had on his mind, it bounced all abouta,
An idea that everybody needed a carved Santa!

Frantically and desperately, he was tearing through his whoard,
Lumber flying everywhere, he was looking for that perfect purdy board!

While his wife was nestled snug in her bed, her snore like a purr;
Lil Mikey was ahustling, he was all a big blur.

With he in his shop, he was making such a clatter
He was afraid his wife would wake up to see what was the matter.

Away to the shop he had flown like a flash,
Tore open the doors and dived into the stash.

More bountiful than most his whoard had became,
And he snorted, and grunted, and called them by name:

Oh, Koa! Now Gidgee! Now Cocobolo and Texas Ebony!
On, Katalox! on, Rosewood! on, Amboyna and Afzelia!

Where are the figures so purdy and all curly?
Maybe some quilt and birdseye, even some burly!

Then what to his wondering eyes did appear,
But some nice basswood so carvable and dear!

He was all chubby and plump, a right jolly old stinker
His belly was shaking as he went off to tinker!

The beard on his chin was as white as fresh snow
And his droll big mouth was drawn up like a bow.

His eyes—how they twinkled! his dimples, how merry!
His cheeks (the ones you could see) were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

He was dressed all in flannel, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all covered with sawdust, he was an old coot!

To the door of his shop! The basswood held tight in his hand,
He knew at once he had to saw, carve, and sand.

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
Soon gave him to know he had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And finished his Redneck Santa; then turned with a jerk,

And laying his finger aside of his big crooked nose,
He gave a nod, and up out of the sawdust he arose;

He sprang to his Jeep, through his teeth he gave a short whistle,
And down the street he flew like the down of a thistle.

But he was heard to exclaim, ere he drove out of sight
“Merry Christmas to TimR and Family, and to all a good night!”

My ornament just arrived from Lou. It is drop dead gorgeous and unique. Sorry though, you are going to have to wait to see it, no time to shoot pictures today. :wink:

Talk about a Grinch! Can't even spare 30 seconds to snap and post a photo for his WB brethren (and sistren). Surely there's a penalty for such behavior.

Hey come on, give a guy a break! It came right before I started getting ready for church.... That surely gives me a little dispensation.... :wink: On the way home now to feed the masses. Maybe after everyone leaves tonight.... Or not depending on how quick I fall asleep.

Again, plenty of time for words, bit no pics!

Yep, rank has its privilege! :sarcastic:

Although I'm not sure I have any rank, but occasionally I am rank.:ohno:

Promise I'll post pics tomorrow, but it won't be until late. Cooking again for the same crew we had tonight.

Real starfish or carved wood? Exotically cool, nonetheless!
Had it been wood that would have been a true masterpiece of carving. Getting those incurved V cuts and then rolling them out into small knobs would have been a hell of a job. Easily a week of work. Somewhat more achievable with power carving tools.

Am I last to post photos of my gift? It was worth the wait. Picked it up yesterday from our mailbox. Really impressed by Tim's gift. The lathe work makes for a beautiful lightweight ornament with a graceful, fragile finial, the marbleized paint work and the colors he chose... it all adds up to a beautiful classy ornament my wife and i will be proud to hang every year. As the years have gone by, the kids have moved on, we seem to put up fewer and fewer decorations but we love a natural tree and we select specific ornaments and will continue to do so. Oh, and Tim included a little acrylic friend with a fancy hat to place on the mantle with other decorations that aren't made for hanging. Thank you very much Tim ( @trc65 ).
