Mark, I don't have any record of every having gotten a piece

Thanks Paul. I see this 'Acupuri' wood was in both the ID forum as well as the for sale forum. After reading in the other forum I realize that you had sent me the pictures Joseph posted and then I forwarded them to Stephanie.

As for the piece you had, that was the 'Ekki' from John that was too cracked for me to easily attain a sample. It is on page 2 of this post.

so @Mr. Peet are you saying that the pictures I posted of my wood called Acupuri was positively identified by an expert to be Ekki?

@phinds

No. If you read through the old posts, I had asked Paul to lift your pictures so that I could forward them to a qualified wood anatomist in South Africa and she responded with Lophira as the most likely genus.

It was identified with high confidence as Lophira genus and 'Ekki' applies to several species in that genus and is the more common wood in commercial trade. 'Azobe' is most often associated with Lophira procera. However, this species name has been changed to a synonym for L. alata. The only other accepted species of "Lophira" is L. lanceolata. So without a physical sample in hand, "Lophira genus" is as far as one can go with confidence. Even with the physical sample, there is a chance that the genus level is as far as can be reached.

I apologize if we mislead you, but would suspect that you have a 50% chance that it is 'Ekki'. There are about 140 common names for the 2 species in the 'Lophira' genus.
