Let's see if I can set up a trade correctly!
Here are two offers, one comprising a carving/turning block of green Catalpa 8" x 7-3/4" x 5-1/4". This block has end grain coated in latex paint. It looks thin in the photos, painted the previous day, and I added another coat after photographing it. No pith, no cracking visible.
Catalpa is an excellent carving wood. Here is a photo of a 'Green Man' I carved into a Catalpa stump many years ago, and gave away as a gift. The wood holds detail well:

These offers will ship for $11.35 in a medium Flat Rate Box.

The Larger Block Is Spoken For! 3-26-12
Catalpa Boards spoken for by PaulHinds/ traded for veneer 4/27/12
The second is a pair of two green Catalpa boards about 11" x 5-1/2" x 1-3/4" each, end-coated with two layers latex paint. No pith. They'd be great for carving a design in box tops, or turning shallow bowls or between centers:

What I'm really hoping for is something fine-grained and dense, in as dark a wood as I can get, for finials and lids on turned vessels. Some African Blackwood would be ideal for that purpose, but let me know what you have I can use for finials and lids of vessels, at least 8/4 and 12" or more long. But I'm open to ideas. Any takers?
