Now that I've shut my jig site down for the summer maybe I can start getting caught up on honey-do's and woodaholic-do's. Many of you woodaholics have been asking about wood so I'm going through my flitch bin and taking out some stuff I saved for myself. I have several hundred pieces in there. About half are thick flitches and the rest are everything from 4/4 boards to oblong clock rounds. Mostly flitches and boards though. Oh but I did stumble across a few long thick stuff that crosscut would make excellent bowl blanks. None of this is green. A lot of it is EMC.

I'll start uploading some pics later this evening and I'll probably add a few each day or so. I'll probably start new threads for each 3 to 5 pieces. I just wanted to see if there's any interest in flitches from you wood concubines. :no dice. more please:

Most woodworkers call them slabs, table tops etc. But to answer your question a flitch is a piece of lumber with one or more live edges. Most of the ones I just dug out are crotch flitches with two live edges.

It's not that I'm not interested but the real boss is spending most of my play money on the house remodel. :biggrin: Not that I don't agree but I sure joined at a bad time to have extra play money. Hey the remodel will not be much longer though if I don't wear out first or go :wacko1:

Jimmy that can't be you in the avatar. You wouldn't fish in a sea you'd fish in the forest. Oh I get it. A timber-hauler sunk in that area 100 years ago and you were trying to snag some sinker logs.

Bowl blanks might be of interest to me, but I'm not in the market for slabs at this point.... I'm still looking forward to the pictures though.

ME too, but with a face to face encounter - rare for big game fish like that to allow a diver to get close though, and you got to do a lot of blue water diving to even have a chance.

I've had some cool close encounters beneath the sea and it ruined my fishing to a degree. I did a lot of deep sea fishing in the GOM when I was a yewt, and my imagination used to run wild about what it was like down there. So when I grew up (have I done that yet?) I spent years down there exploring it. Now, fishing is no mystery to me. I know what's down there, what it's like, and where the fish hang out mostly and how they react to other bait fish. It took the mystery away for fishing.

I still like it, but I'd much rather be down there. With a spear gun. :pleasantry:

That's the best of both worlds.

Equilibrium Moisture Content. It's when the moisture content in the wood fibers becomes equal with the ambient MC. For me it's about 12% probably a little less out there in the tumble weeds where you are.

99%. Got any special requests? I have some black walnut, honeylocust, and a wide sycamore. But most of that stuff is not for turning. The sycamore might make some good platters. The honeylocust is board stuff like 4/4. The BW ranges from 4/4 to I thnk maybe there's some 8/4 stuff in there. It's all jam-packed I been fighting that stuff out all damn day. It's hot and hmid been sweating non stop for hours. Feels good. Not cold. :pleasantry:

Maybe this will hold you for awhile Jimmy....... caught off Cabo in 2006 before linda got sick, an experience like no other !!!!

Platter stuff is what I'm after. If you get a chance I'd like to see it. Maybe we can work something out.

Wow that's a beauty..................... maybe someday (??????) my luck will change. My last venture was in Bora Bora. I was lucky enough to bring in several billfish BUT no Blue. The Captain of the charter I used had caught an 800 lb Blue 3 weeks before I arrived. He brought it in single-handedly ........ 8 hours :scare3::scare3::scare3:
