Would like to get some gunstock blanks (highly figured). I have many things to trade so name it and I might have it. Green or dried OK.

I've got a pretty decent figured walnut blank that's air dried for 5 years. If y'all don't work something out, or if you want more than one James, I'll take a pic at that time. Hope y'all work something out though!

Rules mine out. Don't know how long or wide it is but not close either way. I bet Rob comes up with something anyway.

I sell about a thousand gunstock blanks a year.

A few quick points.

With a 12"x36" you could make two oversized rifle blanks.

Roots in general make for very poor gunstocks. You could never keep Red Gum Eucalyptus roots from cracking, checking and warping during drying. The root wood in Walnut is very porous and is very weak.

Quarter-sawn Red Gum Eucalyptus can have great figure and is very stable once dry. It could be used for a gunstock but it is very heavy. It would be best for something like a target stock.

You'll need to buy a dry(under 10% MC) blank if you want to use it in the next 3 years.

Like the post before, budget is key. You could spend anywhere from $30-$1,000+ on a blank.

Hope that helps. I post some blank photos once I have a chance to figure that out on this site.

Thanks esmith for the info. I have a revised size which is 3x7x36. I do have a kiln to complete any drying needs.

Not to sound like a cheapskate but if it means getting wet wood to keep it closer to the low end of $30-$1,000 that's my option.

I have 3 or 4- 4" x 16" x 8-10' walnut that has dried in a barn for 12 years ( we are a high mountain desert climate here-air dry is dry). I don't know how much figure they have- Hell I can hardly drag them around. I do not think they would be easy to ship but I want to use some of it for bed legs and remander could easily fit into your size parameters. If you want I can get one of the sons to drag one out and see if I can run it thru planer.

Mike that would be great, Joebuilder was first response but did'nt mention walnut and I still would like to get some variety.

Jim, I will get one out and plane it. I needed to anyhow because this winter I will need 4 posts for a bed to finish bedroom set. If Joe takes care of your needs - no problem, Mike
