Here is a piece of persimmon- dry-measurements are on the small side. Have no clue as to worth but I have a lot of it. It planes nice and I will use some in boxes but 400-500' would make more than a few boxes. Trade or sell......... It measures 34"x 6 1/2 x2 5/8. marked thickness is wrong.

Kevin, so do I- i love the black line contrast- it does not look real. Just do not see it here.

I'm interested in this piece if no one has jumped on it.
If you dont know what its value is, I have even less clue Na na na na naah nah.
You'll have to give me some idea, or somebody else chime in with a guess !

If you have some more pieces about the same thickness and with the good dark color streaks, I could be interested in some more of this stuff too.

Joe I read up on persimmon found out it was an ebony- it kinda feels like it. i also read where they are taking the presimmon shipping it milling it on the ship-taking the black out and off loading it onto another boat and selling it back in states as ebony. Always nice to know they are finding new ways to rip somebody off.............:dash2::dash2::dash2::dash2::dash2::dash2:

I'm definitely interested in getting some of this from you. I love the thickness of this piece, too. If you've got another like it, I would be interested in cutting it into 12" sections to stuff in a FRB. This would be a great thickness for peppermills and other stuff!

David How thick and how wide do you need? Just want to get as much in box as possible. I have plenty. Mike

My wife would probably not agree with the use of the word 'need':diablo:, but I do need some persimmon… I just don't know why, but I'm working on a good reason right now.:yipee:

Anything 2.5" or thicker would be fine for me. The width is not so important as I'll likely resaw it into spindle blanks. For that kind of thing, if the width is a multiple of the thickness(or slightly greater), it makes for less waste and awkward leftovers. I guess the perfect piece would be 2.5" thick and about 5.25 inches wide cut into 12" lenths, but there's no reason to be super exact about the measurements.

Thanks!

David here you go. as you can see box is full. Piece on right in the top of box is the other side of the one with knot. If you do not want that one I can exchange it but I am betting that is the one you want the most. This is one more piece than board pictured. By my calculations. $45 inc shipping. if that works for you. Note: skill saw does not have a sharp blade but the cuts from it are very smooth. I bet this wood finishs very nicely.

Looks great, Mike! I can't remember the Paypal info, but if you'll send me a PM with the details, I'll get you some money when I get back from the shop later today... Right now, it's turning time!

Thanks for putting the box together!

Hey everyone a member pointed out where someone had a major malfunction with bugs and Persimmon. Now I do not know if persimmon is different from other wood with bugs but unstacking and restacking a stack that had been stacked for a while I saw no evidence of bugs. I have a cure for buggy wood- it becomes firewood(the few green pieces that I received will become firewood.). Also the persimmon that I received came from Missourri-tornado kill 5-7? years ago and it has been on the eastern side of oregon for 2-3 years. Essentially in the semi arid climate east of the cascades. Anyone that agreed to buy some- if you do not want it -no problem. I will Pm you with this also. I think somewhere we probably need a disclaimer for this issue but this one will be mine for right now. Thanks, Mike

No worries on my end, Mike! I plan to crank that wood up to several thousand RPMs on the old lathe... Any bug that can survive that and my hacking with sharp gouges deserves a place in my shop! PayPal on the way shortly!

BTW, you're not suggesting that you're gonna burn the waxed turning blanks you showed in your original post, are you? Check with me before doing anything rash!
