Hey all,

I have been busy cutting bangle blanks out of all sorts of wood and I am collecting quite an assortment of circular wood bangle cut-outs. These cut-outs are approximately 2.375" OD x 3/4 to 2.5" thick depending on which wood I started with. I would like to use some of these cut-outs for pendants, earrings, etc. But I am collecting way more wood cut-outs than I can use.

Does anyone have ideas on what to do with these or is anyone interested in trading for something? Let me know. Some of these woods were upwards of $90/bf, so at least a few of these have some value. Here is a picture of one of three boxes I have, and a small stack of Flame Osage Orange, Bloodwood, Blue Mahoe, Spalted Maple and Zebrawood.

Thanks,
BG

I have come back to this thread about 5 times now and have grown weak to temptation. I would be interested in trading for some of those cut outs. I can laminate them for some of the calls I make. What do you have in mind for trading or should I say what are you looking for?

Yo Yos came to mind.

Candle bases (either countersink for tea lights or stand for pillar candle) with shaped outsides.

Decorative bird houses.

Use a jig to cut into hex shapes, glue up for cutting boards or other decorative art. for example, it might make a nice wall hanging to cut into hexes (or even leave round), mount on a board, run small LEDs in the center holes. Using the different thicknesses to create a 3D surface could be an option or slice them all the same thickness.

There are all sorts of things one could do with those 'cast offs' :)

And yes, I realize you don't want to just 'cast them off' - it's why you asked the question here :)

Agree on YoYos, as we discussed in our PM that what my first thought about what to do with the core.

Another candle holder type idea may be to cut them at say a 5-10deg angle, stack them in a circular off center pattern and glue to a larger base to make a "waterfall" like effect candle holder. Leave just a slight angle on the top to persuade the candle to run the wax down your staggered waxfall side.

More bangles for toddler girls. Sell like hotcakes as matching sets for mom and tike-ette.

:dunno:

THANKS GUYS!!! Keep 'em coming.:yipee: :wacko1: My favorite so far are Yo-Yos and then next are Mr. Rebuilds "Fish Whacker Bat" (whatever that is, it just sounds cool)! They would also make an Interesting Rolling Pin. I forgot to add that they all have a +/- 1/4" hole in the middle.

Strut, like most of us, I am a sucker for burls, curls and figured whatever! My size requirements are small (4" x 4") , so whadaya got?

Thanks again!

I'll do some digging tonight when I am in the shop and see what I come up with.

You could also have some really fancy handles for your turning tools.

Tops? I mean the spinning, toy kind.

I would trade a FRB of Desert Ironwood and Mesquite peices, and maybe a few other odds n ends, for a box of those! Don't know what I would do with them yet, but they intrigue me.

Hi Barry! Sorry I didn't say hi in your intro posting. Welcome to wood barter! Yeah, Desert Ironwood would be sweet. As long as I can get 4" x 4" x at least 3/4" thick out of the pieces, we'll be set. I have a veritable 'Cornucopia' :rofl2: of wood in these boxes. If you would like, I can list them all by name when I get home tonight, or we can go for a grab bag.

There isn't any maple, walnut, oak, p-p-pine (:mocking:) or other 'normal' woods in the pile. It is all exotics, burls or beetle induced beauty :sarcastic: We could start with an SFRB and see what you think... Let me know.

Thx

Sounds good! I will start putting a box together. I will send a picture for your approval before I ship. Burl and spalt is nice, and a variety of other stuff is fine. Im cool with about everything I saw in your pic. oh yea, and zebra wood if you got any of that.

Kweinert, You came up with all sorts of cool ideas! I am going to have to think about the wall art idea... just a collection of different wood circles of all types of species could be an interesting art nuveau sort of wall hanging... Hmmm...

Hope this pic works... still learning the quirks of this website. This is what I have to trade for your wood pieces. I replied earlier, but it ended up embedded in an earlier post:scratch_one-s_head: I'll stop by the post office and pick up a flat rate box today.

The fish get big and toothy in these warm gulf waters so a small bat on board is a good idea. :smash::smash: Hell even the trout got big ole' fangs

Aww that's a little 'ol bitty speck trout. We never clubbed our trout or even big reds - but when we'd head out to the whistle bouy and beyond in the gom you got to have one for the king mackrel, dolphin fish (not dolphins for you non-fishermen) ling etc. But that little fella you holding heck you just bite the head off that minnow and toss it in the cooler.

:mocking:

Wow, I'd be plenty happy with this stuff:wacko1:. What size box are we trading? Small, Medium or large? Thanks!

Here's another one for you:

Use a frame to make a square/rectangular shape, glue/dowel shapes to fit in the frame, use it was a table top. Maybe glass/plexi the top if desired.

And another: use the frame idea, but stand them vertically in a rectangle or other shape, put a light inside, create a lamp from them. Probably more of a 'mood' light than a 'read a book' light but I'd bet there's a market for it.

I'll keep thinking :)
