This small bowl, just under 5 inches in diameter, comes from wood labeled as fern given to me in Hawaii. I cannot find any information about a tree called fern. It is turned end grain.

Hahah. Blew the rim! Easy to turn and sand. Got too thin with a new tool about an inch in and whoops!

Here’s what the Hawaiian guy who gave me the wood wrote when I asked him recently about the wood: It's fern tree because the leaves look like Boston fern leaves. But it's a decorative tree with hard wood.

Alan, get with some landscapers there in Orange and Santa Ana and try to have them give you any trunks from the millions of tree ferns growing there. You might get lucky. .................. Nubs
