Connected through Facebook marketplace to a guy who was selling roughed out turning blanks. Visited him yesterday, Wow! This guy was a professional turner who had decided to retire from it. He had the most amazing turning set-up I have ever seen, on line, in a magazine, anywhere. His blanks were huge so I picked out some smaller ones I could handle, up to 16" for about 5$ each. Mostly olive, carob, and Brazilian Pepper wood. A pic of my haul, and his custom built lathe with a 26" HF mounted. He also had a Powermatic, and Vicmark lathe and a fortune in accessories that he is selling. His specialty was forms with turquoise fill, sold them in high end galleries in Santa Fe NM. blanks.webp blank big.webp

Congrats! What a blessing! Wish I were closer to partake in the estate! Chuck

Dang! That’ll keep you busy for a while, Barry. Yeah looks like you’re gonna need some filler for those. They’ll be great once they get the Barry treatment.

I am literally drooling with envy. What a super story. Where is he located? It might be worth flying out! You made the best score I’ve ever seen.

He is in metro Phoenix, about 10 miles from the airport, all his blanks are now sold, I'm not sure how he is dealing with selling his other stuff, if I hear, I will let you know...

What’s the swing on that lathe Barry….40” or so? The steady rest is very cool in the way it’s set up. Wonder what it weighs in total?

Nice score on the hollow forms and I’m looking forward to seeing what comes from them.

Nice grab Barry! That's one hell.of a lathe, looks like the tube part under the ways is from a Oneway.

Hey @barry richardson

I know we chatted “not too long ago” about your need to hit a homer with a wood stash. Looks like you found it! Congrats and looking forward to seeing some of your future turnings.
