Hey there, so I am fairly new to carving and woodcraft.
I have quite a bit of experience making large boards smaller etc etc, but doing it nicely and with beautiful results has eluded me.
I started carving spoons and other utensils and that led me here.
Looks like the forum is packed with great information.
Sadly I will be bringing the collective IQ down for the time being. Hoping to learn a lot.

Getting a photobucket account set up. Looks like I'll have a birthday before the first upload finishes.
Is that the experience I can expect? If so I can forego photo uploads.
Not tryna be salty but I have too much wood in the garage top wait for uploads.
Advice?

You don't need Photobucket. If you look at the bottom of the box you type in, click on upload a file. Then you can attach a picture you already have or take a picture then. Pretty simple process.

Skip Photobucket - their service has gone to pot anyways. You can upload directly here. Down at the lower left corner of the box you type replies in, you'll find a button that says "Upload a File" and you can upload pictures from there. Quick and easy and no need for a third party hosting service.

So here's some stuff knocking around the shop: L-R Madrone, Pagoda dogwood, Black locust and Black locust (for scale the butter spreader is about 6").

Some bigger pieces: L-R Madrone, Lilac, Buckthorn, Crabapple.
Oh, and everything is treated with Howard Butcher Block Conditioner.

In process, and a fail. The spoon is locust and the junky oak spindle is my first dry turning attempt. I wanted it to be a bottle opener handle but screwed up the hole. Ho hum.
There are about 15 other pieces in progress right now. I suspect others work this way as well. A little here a little there.
Sorry for the camera photos, hoping to up my photography game a bit to document these creations.

Thanks Spinartist, I have friends in Pompano. Pretty darn nice there.
Trying to think what grows down there for trees. Do you ever use Mangrove?

Pretty nice spoons and such, I've done a few spoons and use them daily in the kitchen. Fun stuff for sure.
 
Welcome from southeastern Massachusetts. Nothing beats a handmade kitchen utensil. Some here are more experienced, some are less experienced but we all pretty much learn from o e and other. Enjoy your journey
