How's your day been?

Got home yesterday afternoon from 8 nights of camping and having fun with my family in Michigan's UP. We try to get up there at some point every year, if we can. Bummed around on back roads. No pictures of my favorite road I drove on. I was too busy having fun crawling around in 4WD, while everyone else was hanging on for dear life. If there was time, my boys and I would have gone back for another go round (while my wife would have elected to stay back at camp - she did not like it one bit, lol!) Did a day trip up to Hancock and toured the old Quincy Mine, where part of the tour we got to see the largest steam hoist ever built - and the only steam hoist remaining in the world. This thing was massive. We've done a handful of different mine tours, a few of them in the UP, and this was by far the best mine tour we've done. Highly recommended if you're ever in the area.

And our second to last night, right as it was about to rain, it started to get a little breezy - but only barely breezy - and we heard a large crack. We had just gotten back into the camper less than 2 minutes earlier. Looked out and the big tree by the entrance to our site, that marked the divider between our site and our neighbors, had split. It had split off into a Y about 20 feet in the air and, while the tree looked healthy, there was some visual signs that it was perhaps splitting, and I had sat at our campfire and wondered earlier in our trip how long before it might give out and split.

Well, I got my answer on night 7, as we heard that crack and looked out to see half the tree sitting on our neighbor's camper... Log they pulled off was about 12" at the bottom. Branches punched through the roof. Frame bent. Surprisingly the roof didn't collapse in. We called the state park office immediately to let them know and they came right away to check it out, then showed up with chainsaws and equipment a couple hours later and got to work clearing it out. Thankfully they were not at camp at the time, as they would have been in the camper at the time, since it was just starting to rain, and where branches punctured at least a couple of them would have been hanging out. Ruined their family vacation - they were 2 nights in to a week long trip with multiple stops across the UP... Felt so bad for them.

Would it be possible to get a lug nut removal tool down in there and on that and get it off, just like you could if it was a locking lug nut on a wheel?
Some guys have had succes doing that, I dont have one. Before I spent the money on one I would just cut the old winch off and bolt a new one on. I can get a used oem one for about $70 or a new aftermarket for about $50. I'm still not even sure if my oversized wheel and tire will fit under the truck. I still have to get the old one down to check and see if it'll fit. To damn hot here to do anything outdoors for this fat old man.

Yeah, if you don't have the tool, it's hard to justify the cost, when the replacement part is not much more. I ended up purchasing the set previously because I had to remove a few bulging lug nuts because of those stupid two piece lug nuts - the thin cap over the nut - corroding and expanding. Was the only way to remove them. Replaced them with solid ones, and have done that on every vehicle I've had since then before I've noticed it becoming a problem...

Yeah I can get a new one on Amazon for $45. I may just go that route. I do have a couple things im going to try first when it cools down a bit here.

I'll let em cure a few days and start re assembling the bike next week when it cools down a bit. It's 98 here and stupid hot and I dont do well in the heat.
Dats blue!

Lets see - I'm one week and two days into retirement, and been very busy doing things for wifey that I'd previously promised, doing things she can't do because she is still in recovery, going to Dr appointments about treatments, and rebuilding the yard ( im.inside now because it is sprinkling). Well, I've come up with a new "life verse". Haven't yet found it in the Bible , and until I do I will call it Lil Mikey 70:7! The verse? -- Always do your work in the shade! Man, its been hot and muggy since R-Day!

I started getting the painted scooter parts ready to install. Lots of clips and things needed to be put back on.
I started with the taillights and rear cover assembly. It was nice that the painter sprayed the backside of the parts also. No ckear coat needed on the back side.

Installed the new seat lock.

Lots of clips, grommets, and the headlight and turn signals swapped over to the new fairing.

Its gonna look pretty nice I think. I'll install new bulbs before I re install the fairing assembly.

The old fairing will be trashed. All the locking tabs are broken off of it.

Amazing designs on this, the Wings and others the way they make tab a go into slot b a 100 different ways. It’s neat to see all laid out but there have been times when I have struggled with the order of assembly.

You mentioned the color again above, sorry for forgetting you had said that in an earlier post Greg. Bottom line though is that I am very fond of that color. Going to look great.

It's really not all that bad on the silverwing. The fairing is the hardest part but it's manageable if you just take your time. The silverwing is the best of the maxi scooters in my opinion. Lots of folks like the Suzuki burgman also, I guy I ride with has one and it is nice. But I like the simplicity of the wing, not a bunch of electronic crap on it, it does have abs and fuel injection but thats about it. The rest is just standard motorcycle stuff. My bike is a 2004 so it's 22 years old, just turned 14,000 miles, thats nothing for a silverwing. You can't get them anymore so if you want one you buy one used. And in my case a fixer upper. It will be very nice when im done with it.

Crappy start to a day off. Went down to take trash and found this. Contacted the property manager of home up the hill and the last client checked out on 28th. That means someone just dumped their trash. Of course the bear wanted more so he tried the dumpster but the bear bar worked. Guess I will be investing in a trail camera with live feed.

On a better note, this is Denise’s first day of retirement. She is in her happy place at yoga and I am going to try to meet her at the Farmers Market in just a bit.

Happy 250th, God Bless America

Sad!! Either to lazy or too dumb to figure out how the bear bar worked so they just plopped the trash bags next to the dumpster and drove away. This is what makes people dislike renters in their neighborhood.

Congrats and happy retirement to Denise.

Storms knocked out the power here yesterday. Power is not expected to go back on till 11:30 tonight. Good thing I have my ecoflow battery back up generator to keep the fridge cold.
It's small but mighty and silent it currently says im good for 12 hours with the current draw. It's been a year since I charged it and it was still at 99%

Well i just got an update on the power, it now won't be back on until July 5th at 11:30 PM. I guess I better dig the generator out.
