How's your weather treating you?

Have seen estimates from 8-15" of snow here, which is a lot for here if we get on the high end, usually 3-4" at a time is the most we get a couple times a year. What sucks is we have a steep gravel driveway shaded by trees, and not supposed to get above freezing for the foreseeable future. Once you drive on it with snow, that becomes ice. So we're gonna have to park our vehicles at the bottom of the hill and take our side by side up and down to leave prob for the next week :wonky:

Our drive is flat, but I know what you mean about leaving cars at the road. Ours drifts so bad that during the blizzard of '78, it took 3 weeks to dig the drive out. Dad had left a car at the end of the drive, and rather than work on digging out the drive, we plowed a path through the cornfield and drove on that while we cleaned the drive.

Speaking of '78, that blizzard went through the Midwest on January 25. We had ~20" of snow and 45 mph winds. This year, we are only getting an inch or two, but the southern 2/3 of Indiana is going to get hit hard 48 years to the day after that blizzard.

Brother lives halfway between Atlanta and Tennessee border in an area that could get hit hard. He has already moved into a friend's house with backup generator for the duration of the storm and aftermath.

Us "northerners" always joke about these storms that hit the south, but not joking about this one. Hope everyone in the path stays safe and warm. It could be a long recovery for some.

Our small piece of the storm is a bust. Cold and half inch of dry powder. However, wife is stuck in the Springs with cold, snow and icy roads. She worked Friday and stayed with her best friend last night. Trying to figure out the best timing for her to try to make it home.

Waiting on possible ice overnight in the Memphis area. Luckily only got 5" of snow and sleet so far, but that's better than ice. Nearby town had a curfew after midnight until 6am to keep people off the snow and ice covered roads.

Break out the board games and make the kids play.

Surprisingly the board games didn't get broken out yesterday, but we still had some good times as a family. However my wife and I did kick the kids out of the house for about an hour - although not to hang around outside in the bitter cold. They went next door into church and made use of our gym, which had nothing going on in it since everything had been canceled with the cold. They got remote control cars and mini drones for Christmas from family members, and, well, having a whole gym to themselves gave them a lot more space to run them around than the house!

My wife and I were talking about the cold we're currently getting. We're obviously not fans of it, but have lived in colder. It's interesting that the temps on Friday - with windchills down to -40F - were enough to cancel and shut down a LOT of things. But when we lived in ND and MN, we could go 2 or 3 weeks in January and see these kinds of temps as the warmest it would get.

But, I've been thinking about and praying for everyone down south. Y'all aren't used to, or prepared for, the kind of weather you're getting hit with. Y'all stay safe down there.

You're right! Once it hits 40 below 100, we're miserable down here!

We did get a round for now, but still not as much as we thought. Will see in the morning.

Be safe everyone. Watch those pipes in outside walls you southerners.

Yesterday I looked at my rain gauge and it showed 1/4" from all day Friday and into Saturday morning about 11am. Today, at 9.22 am, the gauge showed over 5/8". So for the last three days, Tucson has gotten somewhere around 1" of rain with all kinds of bad weather warnings. I can't believe the hysteria wrapped around any kind of weather that is going to happen, whether it's rain or sunshine. Things certainly have changed since the '90's.
Today we are supposed to get a 1/2" with a 98% clear sky.

Oops, I misread the precipitation report. It indicated 1/2" within the last 24 hours. ........... Nubs

Weather is awful here in South Florida, 87° and sunshine and windy. Tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. it's supposed to be 50° with 68° for the high.
I'm gonna have to get those long pants out again

Got up to 22 today. I was in a hood most of the time. Felt good versus the negative numbers we had the last 2 days. The 30 mph wind made it just super ick. We had 20 inches of snow. Been up about 36 hours, just getting in from plowing and shoveling. Shaking a bit so body is likely stressed.

Ugh, no fun. Hope the possible storm next weekend stays off-shore.
