Greetings, Fellow Wood Enthusiasts:

I'm a long-time viewer, first-time typer. I've long admires the myriad of wood and wood discussion that goes on here. While the WTB, Trade, or Sell has an excitement all its own, I'm a fan of the whole site.

I first got into woodworking as a 30-something wanting to carve in some vintage European style. Now in my 40's, carving still appeals to me, though my interests have broadened to include exotic and interesting woods of all kinds, vintage tools and workbenches, restoration and use of said tools and workbenches, and generally appreciating the craftsmanship of previous generations that remains with us today. My ambitions are currently bigger than my square footage, time, and budget allow, though I have high hopes. With limited time, I seem to collect more interesting wood, tools, and stories than I can possibly use. As such, I hope share / trade / sell / donate as opportunities arise.

Below are a few finished projects, though many more have been started. Plus, I wish I photographed more.
I look forward to getting to know y'all. Please feel free to reach out to talk wood, old iron, vintage anythings, cookies, or fried chicken.

Thank you all for being here and propagating the virtual community larger than any one town, village, or region could contain alone.

I hope you all stay well.

Thank you, WoodTickGreg and Maverick!
I can feel the warmth already. :-)

JB, Welcome from San Antonio! Lots of great woodworkers here. The best ones are, of course, also Texans!! :texas:Tony

30-something carver and fellow board-newbie checking in. Hi! That's some nice work you've done!

Another transplanted Texan. Welcome JB,glad you jumped in. Great pieces you shared, you have an incredible start.

Hi JB What part of H-Town you in? I'm over on the east side in Beach City. Welcome to the site!

Another California welcome! Thanks for including pics! Looks like you are pretty talented. What types of wood do you most like to work with? Chuck

Thanks, Everyone! I'm impressed and inspired about this welcome.
What a great group! I can't wait to learn more about the projects that call you to perform them and some of the beautiful wood I've acquired but do not know much about it.
For example: I was told that the attached chunk is an Almond burl, but I can't verify. Does anybody recognize it? And, because it has a vast beauty that I think someone else will adore while it's wasted on me, I hope to trade it for a bit of acacia, olive, vintage plane, or something else fun. Look for this to show up soon in the Want to Trade section.

For those Texans reading this: I'm smack in the middle of H-town, near the Texas Medical Center.
Look forward to connecting!
Thanks again,
--JB (ScoutDog)
