My boxes

Thanks. This is the first time in years making the banding. I would have loved to have used miniature barrel hinges but I felt the sides were too thin to try it. Unfortunately I didn’t have any blood wood for the heart.
Yeah. The banding is nice but needs practice. Do you use power tools to flatten / thin stock or do you use a handplane?

The barrel hinges not fitting is annoying and unfixable. Not much you can do. Maybe slightly nicer hinges.

Now that last point though: that sounds like a very good excuse to buy more wood.

So here is my next box.
The dimensions are 8 7/8” long by 4 5/8” wide by 2” tall.
The main body is Holly and the inlay and legs are Jatoba ( African Cherry). The finish is Watco oil and buffed out with hard wax. The hinges are somewhat decorative. The lid opens to 90 degrees and stops on the top of the back feet. The bottom is lined with red felt and is held in place by being tucked into the groove for the bottom panel. That is much better. (not to say the last one was bad) Really really nice hinges too.

The only two things I see are that the lid isn't completely flat and you might want to spend some more time sanding and making the glue ups flush. It makes the box look much more professional. I recommend making a simple box where you really focus on getting these things right. Use good sandpaper and use it like it's free. Make sure that everything is flat too.

Still a good box. It is a real joy to watch you improve in your journey.
