On the largest logs you might want to grab a milling adapter that fits over a 2x4. It clamps to your chainsaw bar. Decently affordable and only takes about 30 seconds to attach to your saw.

Chuck, there are lots of YouTube videos of this in use out there. Often these are used on larger logs to square a side as if for a can't after taking a first cut with an Alaskan mill. Often the user will screw down a 2x4 or 2x6 to use as a guide.

I am hoping to pick one up in the next month or so. It looks simpler than squaring a log in my band mill. I can pull the top cut off with my bandmill, then screws down a 2x6 and clip the side. That will allow me to flip twice more in the band mill to make clean posts or cants. My mill is so small, it is unhandy for squaring cuts. Takes a bit of work to lock an 18 inch log into the system perfectly square. This may well be helpful edging up the oversized logs as well.
