Question - It looks like the 3 woods are 1) side-grain to end grain, and, 2) end-grain to end-grain joined (?) Do you use dowels, or some other connection, for strength?

Yes there is a 1/4" piece of all-thread with epoxy.

Now you need to carve a black widow out of the ebony with a blood wood hourglass on its belly to mount on the web!
