Purdy shotgun stock needed.

I actually thought I was being neutral seeing that I nominated 2 fine members from here that posted some beauties, 3rd not being mine that is gorgeous and yes the 4th being koa. Mike now has options and he has a visual reference to now be able to make an informed decision. I am sure there are other woods that should be up for nomination if other members post some more……
It would make a purdy stock. The stock would be more valuable than most shotguns

@Mike Hill I have nothing to offer except for watching eyes. I have a feeling this is going to be really pretty!
Also, side note, am I the only one that has to re-read Lil Mikey’s post 2-3 times before I understand what he is saying!?!? It’s like a redneck aristocratic poet on some sort of ADHD meds…in the best way possible.

G----os----h.......Sh....a..............n.....e......I.........can't.........st.....op...........uh........l.......a.....ug...h...ing......... Gotta stop - got a spensive coffee in my hand - large americano with some extra shots - precious stuff I dun't want to waste....... Maybe that's my problem - too much caffeine? Nope - impossible. Well not really impossible, after doing the research years ago - I think it would take over 135 shots of espresso at one time to cause me to keel over - At least that is what my Death by Caffeine calculator says........ " It’s like a redneck aristocratic poet on some sort of ADHD meds…in the best way possible." I gotta use that quote - iff'n I have permission!

Well, some of us Tennersee folk git what's being said. Course I am not purely a tennessee boy, got background in VA, NY, MO, CA and a couple long excursions behind a teacher's desk deciphering talented works of literature among other things  :read::impatient::coffeenews:

Maybe I need to "smoke a bufo toad" as christina did to " reset my brain and kicked out years of anxiety"!. Now I have to google what a bufo toad is!

Ran through planer before I packed. Figure is tight and nice but dark spot. Might not matter. This piece is 17 long. I have rest of board. Nice figure but narrower. Wide enough though and white at least on one side. Your call. 20210711_103622.webp

Can probably work around it. Won't know until I put a template on it. So ok.

Permission granted! Lol

Now, iff'n I could find a piece of quilted maple the right size and not resawn to thinnness for the qeetar trade - I'd seriously consider it.

Just for grins I decided to look at Turkish Walnut. Gawrsh! after my 3 day recovery from the double concussion as a result of my head hitting the floor after swooning over the prices - I guess the concussions actually knocked some sense into my hard head and that idea may not exist anymore.
Next time you want to look at turkish walnut, look at it's latin name. You will likely be able to find the species here on woodbarter in the United states. It just wont come from a turkey orchard.

Ok, under duress and quaking under threats - let it be said Lil Mikey does not shirk his duties and will not violate the photo rule!

Here she is. You notice she has a little skin rash, has a scar or two, her makeup is kinda smudged, she has been trussed up at one time, her sandals have seen better days and you might notice she is missing an earring, but she's mine!

W H Davenport Firearms - not valued much more than I gave for her in good shape, but she is priceless to me and will get petted!

You might try Numrich arms for the missing part. You may find it under a different make. Often cheaper hardware store guns were branded to suit the buyer.

Here is one I did years ago . It is a Forehand & Wadsworth, it was a 12 ga. cartridge gun. I felt it was unsafe to shoot with modern loads so I converted it to muzzle loader. It's a hoot to shoot and will bust clays as good as my Mossberg pump, just not as fast. It was in very similar condition as yours. I paid $45 for it, the stock wood came from a defective M1 blank that I paid $10 for. The barrel was draw filed sanded and polished to remove the pits and charcoal blued.

Old guns always get me going. As I suspected the part you are missing is the take down screw with a folding tab. The only one I have found listed online is priced at $50. It would be a relatively simple job to make the screw on a metal lathe, looks like the folding tab could involve some pretty delicate milling or hand filing. I'm sure it would function just fine with a screw that fits that could be removed with a hex wrench or screw driver.

You've either done more looking or know better where to look, but I have not found one yet - but I have only done a cursory look yet. Have even thought about buying another gun to have the part. Found a Keene that looks similar, but no idea for sure. Thought I would have to go the route of making or having one made. Maybe the tab of a different metal - have a piece of damascus that could use or brass or nickle silver.

If you make one you will have to somehow figure out the thread pitch. Gun screws have no standard especially on older guns. The easy way would but to retap the hole to something standard..

I was gonna find all the bolts/screws, I could find in the dia and see if one fits and then have the pitch. From the pics I've seen, doesn't look that fine.

I was just looking around for the heck of it because this thread interests me. From what I found out looks like the takedown pin goes on that hole.

Dagnabbit. I remembered the name I was thinking of last night, but forgot to write it down and have since forgotten it. There were two girls in high school that.......well........ummm........they didn't call Lil Mikey bird dog for nuthin........he'd follow them anywhere..........just followed their scent. One was named Rania (I think that is how she spelled it), but not the one I want to name the shotgun after - she was more smokey! To Lil Mikey she was kind of a cross of Adrienne Barbeau and Barbara Stock. Of course it was only dreams - Lil Mikey ------ he had no chance at all, 0%.

Now I have to go find the old annuals - I wonder where they are?
