That’s cool. I just identified one in an old pasture behind my house this past spring. For years I thought it was a china berry. I gave it a closer look and realized it didn’t have the dried berries like the ones in my yard. I contacted someone that knows trees and he helped with identifying it. It is not common here in the south and was probably transplanted by my Grandfather back in the day. They are common in the Appalachian Mountains. Once used for fence post due to its durability and rot resistance. There is a broke limb on one side . I plan on re-sawing some boards out of. Nice. We’ve got bunches of Honey Locust and Black Locust growing wild around here.
The “thornless” Honey Locust make great parkway trees. Very tolerant of pollution from streets and do okay with all the salt from the roads in the winter months. There’s a lot of towns plant them in downtown sidewalks and parking lots.

Yep, around me, honey and black grow like weeds. Good turning wood though and the scent of the flowers is heavenly. Although I've not tried it, some will batter the flowers and deep fry them. A little powdered sugar and you've got a great dessert.

Look how fast the wings have formed in just 3 hours .
Well, they have to be in a hurry since they only live a few weeks after this and they've got to find a lady cidada, woo her, and mate. It's a rush, but they manage.

Cool! I just heard about them while Turkey hunting this past season. I had walked thru them for years and never knew they were there until someone pointed them out to me. The ones in our woods are small and hidden in clusters growing at random spots here and there.

These are wild ones that grew from a single one I transplanted years ago. These have spread from the berries they produce. Takes about 5 years for a plant grown from seed to flower.

Went to the home opener for the Willmar stingers last night, boy 4o’clock rolls around fast when you get home at 1115 and go to bed at 12. We’ll worth it. Stingers won 8-6. These guys are Barry and blue. Loads of fun at the ballpark.
