With those open spots around the docks, that ice hardly looks thick enough to support vehicles and all those people.
Definitely need thickness. I suppose about 6” or more preferably. ChuckI cannot imagine all that - ice breaks so easily at my house!
I was thinking the same, however, his weather has been similar to ours and most of our ponds and lakes are 12-20" thick for ice. So wonder if they have heaters on those docks to limit ice push. With those open spots around the docks, that ice hardly looks thick enough to support vehicles and all those people.

It’s the only FAA approved ice runway in the lower 48, it‘s a sea plane base year round. To open the airstrip the ice is required to be twelve inches thick minimum to support the 10,000 lb plow vehicles that maintain the runway and support areas. Most of the planes only weigh in around 3000 lbs. The open areas around the town docks are intentional, bubblers keep the water from freezing and run 24/7 to protect the pier structures.I was thinking the same, however, his weather has been similar to ours and most of our ponds and lakes are 12-20" thick for ice. Hallelujah!
Yeah, and we are getting a blizzard Sunday into Monday with lows of 7° Monday night.....Hallelujah!
Already sprung in Europe. The dogwoods have been flowering for almost two weeks now. Will post pics later today.
Hilarious!Seen on an interstate in Tennessee last week as we drove back from Florida. Lousy picture, but i couldn't do any better while driving. If the zoom works, you may be able to see a bulldozer strapped to the front of the trailer. At least he was able to get a load for the trip home!!
