Sept. 28 Houston

Ya Barry, we made it back with everything, no problems!

I know Mike's truck is going to get better mileage on the way home to Washington. @woodman6415 Wendall did y'all keep everything in the back on the way home. There sure was a lot of nice stuff changing hands there today. Also got me a nice thick mesquite slab from David @David Hill

Here's the happy group

Barry broght a couple coyote hides. Beautiful. One was so red it almost looked like a fox.
Truck is a lot lighter.
When i started loading for this trip, i never thought I would fill truck. Not only did i fill it but felt bad a few late comers did not go home with maple. Also as i was getting ready to leave a guy stopped me and said, "i heard you had wood for sale"?
I need a bigger truck........

Looks like a great group of W.B. guys. It's nice the 2 guys next to Tony are leaning over some to make Tony look taller. Have a safe trip home @Mike1950 .:sofa:

Thank you @David Hill! The mesquite slab I bought from you was great, I was able to cut three beautiful blanks out of it. I don't know what you mean by it being a little punky, other than pissing off some grubs the wood looks great. I am getting about 25% - 36% moisture rating on the blanks. If I turn them at this level, how much does mesquite warp? Another plus of mesquite, when resawing it, my garage smells like BBQ.

Kevin, IMO turn them now. Mesquite doesn't warp like other woods in my experience, turn it green then let it dry, no worries!

I've never turned mesquite and don't turn bowls but from the looks of those blanks I may have to round up a few small pieces for some calls. They look nice. Is there much sap in mesquite? I bet a sappy mesquite call would look nice.

I've only turned one mesqite bowl and I am still oiling it to get the finish to stick.

Have not had much in way of "sappy" Mesquite & I have cut/processed a lot of it . The grain and colors are highly variable even in pieces from the same tree.
