The Project I Am Thinking

Hello folks...before purchase my bandsaw almost all my cuts was by hand.Of course I purchased woods pre dimensioned.

I have plans to make some handles for chisel and file (around six or eight handles) at my new learning curve at bandsaw.

After that I would like to make a bench (or a large stool) using wood and acrylic (3/4" acrylic dowels).
I love the mix of wood and acrylic but is not common at all
My intention is make something like the seat is floating .
I"ll show the idea and how the project going on when I make the next step.I am not in a hurry and I want finish in two months or more (relaxing project).
My wife wants another furniture before and that one is priority.
A place for our plates and similars at side of our table.Like a sideboard buffet.

About bench:
The seat conect the legs using a acrylic dowel but you can see easily because they are transparent and moved for center.
The legs and seat dosen't touch each other...the conections are indirect.

Have you made your handles yet? If so, you should consider making them faceted instead of round. Like octagon-duodecagon (8-20 sides) it improves grip extremely. Also they don’t roll around on the bench.

Cool seat idea. And that book looks interesting.

I didn't do it yet...my cyclone dust collector is no ready (need some adjusts).My plan is use this idea below:

I don't have this answer yet.It is a first idea flowing and I need to think in both beauty and strenght.
In fact maybe I need some adjusts.
Thanks for show a possible problem issue.
The glue will be epoxy because acrylic dowels
I believe I'll need to do a model by MDF and after use the real wood

That is a very good jig. You can even make custom sled shapes for different tools like sloyd knives. I recommend you watch the YouTube videos of zed outdoors with Peter kovacs (Soulwood creations) there are some really good infos on ergonomics in there. The pacing is slower though. Not that bad though. It might make it easier to understand.

Here the dowels direct at legs and attached to seat by a piece of wood at each leg...still the seat not touching the legs and creat the ilusion of floating because acrylic is transparent and you can't see it if you are not so close

Yes seems it would allow more contact with the leg without looking too bulky. Since everything has curves. Maybe curve the angle on the underside with either a router or a sander. Doesn't take much curve to make it look fancy.

I assume you have the acrylic rod already. I got my acrylic rod here local by salvaging the clear grab rods out of fiberglass tubs that were being replaced. If you have a yard that deals in recycled house parts, sometimes there are also acrylic towels bars as well that mount to the wall. The rod simply falls out of the ends for those.

Yes I purchased my acrylic rods few months ago and a 10 mm acrylic sheet as well if I change my mind for a loose tenon like 8x6" and connect direct seat and legs (keeping a space) and the acrylic you still seeing and because is transparent it looks like the wood is there without nothing conecting.

Like that glass floor in Chicago...or CN Tower in Toronto ilusion

Here the other idea (I have few) and how to connect using an acrylic loose and tenon.

The wood I purchased for this bench has 30mm thickness.
My intention is make a chamfer all around to add charm...by hand using my plane.
Adding temporary wheel to follow the curve around the front part of seat.
