What did you do in your shop today?

I moved some wood and made a space for the new planer cart. Found some more wood for the burn pit, lol.

Turned catalpa for the first time. Wood is soft but cuts and shear scrapes very nicely with freshly sharpened tools. Sands without issues 180 to 600 grit. Took the first coat of oil finish very well for a soft wood. Has a nice grain with open pores and though not too fancy looking it will be a great wood for dying. Like it and look forward to experimenting with it. Pics focus on the wood details.

The rings are alluring! Can’t wait to see what you do with the dyes! Chuck

Yep, as soon as they get the roofs, ect. Although several family members hang them as stand alone decorations separate from the tree.

Just a reminder, Red-rot in Black cherry has nice color but needs to be stabilized.

Transition can be abrupt like above or gradual like below.

Was cleaning in the shop, had planned to do something with these but to limit clutter will feed them to the stove.

Had enough time to make a couple pens today, unfortunately that was all the time I had in the garage. Gatsby with our tractor and a deer hunter with antler.

Got a glue up in the clamps and I'm starting on one of 3 burn piles. I still have a full box outside and the scrap box in the shop is full. Its in the 40s today and no rain so a good day for a burn, no rain tomorrow so the coals will continue to burn out. 20231210_133525.webp
