What did you do in your shop today?

As long as you are happy. I have a few similar units from the 70's. Never imagine being sold for that much now days. Yard sales a few years ago, dirt cheap, but now to think about it, been years since seeing any at yard sales. Rock on.
They are becoming very hard to find.

I received an order of sandpaper from klingspore so it was time to change the sanding mop.

Changed the paper on the drum sander to 150 grit for some finer sanding. Its getting pretty easy to change the paper on this thing, I can do it in a few minutes.

Ready to sand.

I finished cutting this batch of crosses on the scroll saw, 86 in this batch.

Next I'll be running these through the drum sander, this is an experiment to see how they come out.

I run 4 or 5 thru at a time. Very slow and very light cut.

After sanding the flats I move on to the spindle sander to remove any blade marks or burns from the scroll saw.

Only 60 more to go on this step. I had to quit, my back just cant take standing for long periods of time anymore. Getting old sucks!

After the spindle sander I'll move on to the flap sander to round over the edges and make it softer in the hand. I hope to have these done and ready for blo this week.

Finished up the third picture frame for our family picture (this one is for wife and I). Got some glass, cut a mat and a backing board and put it all together. The frame is juniper with walnut accent AND splines. I learned my lesson. Used a spray can of clear shellac, about 5 coats, sanded after the first three then 0000 steel wool after the fourth.

Man, that brings back a lot of memories and puts odd smiles on my face. Dad ran a furniture store and could get great discounts and I opted for a Soundesign 5437 with 422 turntable and big speakers. It was my college stereo. Why did I pick that one - it had lots of knobs and switches and buttons on it - Lil Mikey liked and was impressed with knobs, switches, and buttons! Well, and it did have some good numbers for sound quality and such. Plus the 8-track built in - the cat's meow! Pulling all-nighters listening to Willie and Merle! Nope - still not fun!!!

I can see the top of my work bench again, first time in months. Still some miscellaneous stuff to decide to toss or save but at least I have work space now. A baggie of shavings I need to refill the bird nest box I made a couple years ago for the chickadees. Made a sturdier mount for that extendable lamp you see on the peg board, made a second one for similar light on a cabinet opposite the bench and made another rack for more spring clamps I got from that neighbor lady - all stuff that was laying on the bench. Trying to decide what I can make with 40-50 maple go bars. A go bar is just a maple slat, 3/4-1" x 3/32" thick by approx 27 inches long. Used them to apply clamping pressure when gluing tops and backs on guitars. Since I don't plan to build any more guitars, I don't need to go bars any more. Thinking maybe some sort of woven box or basket.

Night & day! Congrats!

Back row oiled.

All oiled now.

I'm really hoping this batch last for awhile, lol. I need to work on some other things, like finishing my workbench!

Got some shop time the last two days. First effort at end grain cutting boards. Definitely will do more in the future. Fun projects. I still want to chamfer the edges and put feet on them. Can’t wait to oil them up.

Fantastic looking boards, especially for first ones! What wood species are they? Chuck

Went over to my neighbor's house and helped him stack a bunch of hickory lumber another guy gave to him. Then used his drum sander to true up some boards I've had around. A nice long piece of olive I got from that guy who had a whole shipping container full (sorry, can't recall his name). Four sections of indian rosewood I got from Joe ( @wood128 ), some walnut thins I got from Rob I think and a nice piece of watery curly maple I can't remember who sent it. Now I have to decide what to do with them.... decisions, decisions....

Lots of potential there! Boxes, knife scales, game boards, etc. Keep us posted whatever you decide. Chuck

Think the olive was from Laith.

I worked on items for our holiday market in two weeks, and also on a couple of special orders. This one's for a grandchild of a family friend, and I still need to slap some finish on. Nothing fancy -- the wood's just 3/4" poplar from Home Depot, and the trained eye will notice a couple of small blade slips, but hopefully the kiddo will like it. . .

Ben, a simple thought for your next one. Turn the pattern about 45 degrees so that the grain runs with the neck. That is the weakest point. Of coarse a cross grained laminated second layer does wonders, but adds work.

I have been walking a mile a day to help build back my heart condition, which tires me out and I end up not wanting to go into the shop. I am hoping to get going tomorrow. But it will be roughing out a bunch of cherry bowls. So, nothing too exciting. I've got some cleaning up in the shop before work begins.
