What did you do in your shop today?

And why not turn on the lathe. Saw a video on simple limb mushrooms so thought I would try one. Similar to the limb Christmas tree video, just quick spindle gouge practice. On both, I really need practice on my proportions and balance. This mushroom is just a bit off. The stalk bulge was supposed to be 1/3 up, not mostly in the middle. That’s okay…..just what I need To be doing. I will add one thing: used my round carbide to clean things up. Again, I identified where I need to be able to pick up my cut a little better and not leave that little line. About 6” tall, aspen from dead tree.

Glad to see you working on the lathe. I have had fun of late making goblets out of Branch wood.

I’m trying to complete a snowman I did for the October club demo. I preturned most of the parts for the program and now I’m putting it together. I’ve had a plan for snowman ears for a long time and made two today. The hat is made of holly but features a sizable crack. I made a worm that sticks out of the crack. Made a wreath for one hand and planning on a candy cane for the other. Buttons, eyes and nose done. Will do the cane and start painting.

Got a woodburner? If you do. Use it to burn some gills on the bottom side of the cap.

Perhaps this is an Atomic Bomb...

A little more progress on my delinquent kitchen stool.

Cut the tenons on the stretcher.

Shaped/feathered the stretcher into the tenons and rounded over the edges.

Stretcher and legs ready for final sanding. A bit of water to raise the grain (and show off the curl).

Shaping the seat is next. I hope this feather survives that.

Big step! Dry fit. Time to heat up the Old Brown Glue. Once the glue is set then have to dish out the seat, grind the protective caps off the leg tops and true up the leg/seat joints.
