What did you do in your shop today?

Roughed out a bunch of black locust bowls a few weeks ago and decided today to “finish" one of them. This will be my project for the next few weeks when it is too cold to work in the shop (≤20°).

Think I'm going to do a monochrome “squash blossom" design, but haven't started drawing anything out yet. Bowl is 9"x3".

Ambitious!! Can’t wait to see it.

That is a cool bowl, but think it would be a huge chore to clean out. Can just see the food smeared and packed in all those groves. Unless you just look at it.....and not use it. Uhg, sounding like marriage now. Withdraw the thought.

This sure isn't going to be a quick project, more like weeks or maybe months to finish. Many of the squash blossom designs I'm looking at are from Pima Indian baskets in museums. Others that are more intricate were made by master weaver Marian Cruz of the Tohono O'odham nation in the 1990's. Here are two of her designs I'm considering.

@Sprung , Matt, you must have had a smile on your face!! I bet you enjoyed doing that.

While shop time has been sparse for a while, I have hardly used the lathe in the 3 years since we moved. So, yeah, I enjoyed it.

Didn't get to drill out the blanks though - my bit was too dull for the task. Have a new one on the way, so I'll drill them out next time I'm in the shop.

I did, however, get started on the bourbon barrel coffee table I'm making. Make pretty good progress on it - have everything cut to size and ready to assemble once the BLO I put on the top dries. I'll share some pics once it's done.

Does it have reversibility in case you need to use the other side of the fence when cutting?
It does. The point of putting it on the plywood strip and using magnets to secure it is that it can be removed easily, not permanently fixed to the fence. The board could be reversed or the arms removed and reversed.

I do like a clean studio and make cleanup part of the daily work process, ain’t hard and only takes a few minutes.
