What did you do in your shop today?

Parsonage called at 10:30 am, flooded basement. I was sick. Saw missed call at 6:30pm. Wife and I had basement pumped out and temporary replacement sump pump in place by 8pm. The waiting is the hardest part. Or is it the wading....
Sounds like a (Tom) Petty problem.

Glad you were feeling well enough to help them out. Why is it that stuff doesn't happen when i'm rested, healthy and bouncing off the walls looking for something to do?? (so i don't have to do what i shold be doing!!)

I was able to get 20 bottoms done... ruined 3 (rushing).
The average time was 12 minutes. I'm going to go ahead and finish these in the next few days.
Then I'll start another batch of 10 a little later.

Jon, looking good there, but, I need to have an answer why you use a recess on your pieces. I'm not criticizing the use of recesses, just wondering why you use them. And, I might be asking others the same question. .................. Nubs

I'd assume those recesses make it easier to stabilize the bowl on unlevel surfaces and also help give grip when moving the bowl. Might save chuck time on the lathe too. Look forward to his response...

No pictures, so maybe this might not have happened.
I was invited up to Skull Valley, Arizona, for a wedding on March, 23, of the oldest daughter of one of the most friendly families I have ever met in my entire life. On the 19th, I decided I would make Cholla Tea/Tee Lights for each table used at the dining barn after the wedding. There were 19 dining table, plus the bride and grooms table, so I made 24 of them. It took about 15 minutes for each one after it was mounted and turned, then another minute to get a coat of lacquer on them. After dining and dancing was over, they were given to whoever wanted one. I have no clue why I didn't take pictures.

Another reason for this post is about how much time it took to make them, which was pretty quick in my opinion. If I was only doing one, I'll bet I would have taken over an hour to make just one. It is my belief if you start a production run, it's possible that after the second piece, the other will take less time for the successive pieces.

As there are no pictures, I guess it's a figment of my imagination. .......... Nubs

Simple. 5/4 (rough) lumber is being used. Making 30 of them just out of Cherry wood can be expensive if I go any thicker. Also, it is a small piece so a small mortise works fine. I do prefer tenon's when the piece permits. And... I don't want to glue on a tenon... that would be much more work and being asymmetrical... much harder to turn over and find the center to turn off the tenon. I think that covers most of the reasons. Big one is money.

I had to mow my frikkin' lawn today!! But the good news is the mower and edger started right up, no slapstick mechanic action this time. Even bought some 16-16-16 slow release fertilizer and gave it a light spread today. Guess I'll have to turn my sprinklers on soon.

Hollowed another little walnut form. This and the previous one had been sitting in plastic bags on the bench for a couple of weeks, so glad to get them done.

I got the snowblower ready to go again for tomorrow morning. Expecting about 11" of that white crap again. Of course
this occurs now that we are back from Florida. ARRRGH

I'm preparing to put mine up for the season.

We used ours twice. I always wait to May 1st to put ours away for the season. The second and third week of April is known for nor'easters, granted only every 3-5 years, but not taking chances.
