What did you do in your shop today?

I'll bite: I understand why you'd want to replace the cheap pressboard with plywood. But was it cheaper to buy the entire new cabinet and take it apart vs just making your own cabinet from scratch? I'm thinking it had a solid hickory front and you simply replaced the sides, back and top?
I have seen several contractors doing that the last 5 years. They told me it was cheaper.

My shop is not up to speed yet. I would prefer to make the thing from scratch, I have the shaper and all that. Got new bits this weekend with an eye toward doing just that. I need 1200 dollars worth of Lowe's junk or literally 100 dollars of locally sourced kiln dry hickory.

Roughing out some Walnut, 13 x4”. I absolutely love the look of Walnut. Changes from this greenish hue then changing to chocolate brown with the streaks.

Between yesterday and today ended up with (2) nested sets using my Oneway coring rig.
That live edge biggest bowl is deep. About 12” diameter and 6-7” deep. The smallest live edge is all sapwood. The cut rim set biggest bowl is about 13 x 4” so nice size.

I was asked to do another church's Mother's Day Presents for this year. That request happened before my heart attack. Which has set me back a bit. I've been slowly whittling away at them, still in the roughing-out phase, but I should get them completed in time.
Pictures are a couple of rough-outs that are waxed and ready to be bagged. A pile of cherry curls. And the bagged rough-outs.

Temporary addition to the vac system. Will need to rearrange the whole unit when the new lathe arrives. Also had a new 220 plug installed.

Great to have you back in action! Looking forward to see some final bowls! Please don’t stress out on any deadlines! Chuck

It's kind of cool to see them all side by side, makes seeing the differences in the wood easier. Liking the one in the bottom row, first pic, the one on the right.

How many of those samples do you have in your collection now Mark?
All of them.....2192. I have to be getting close to 1000 species. Not sure how to sort excel to determine such. I try to have at least 2 samples of each species, however, I might have up to ten or more samples for a few species. I finished up another 21 today. Did not take a picture. I have maybe 500 more in the rough to work up. Only get 2-4 days a year on average, the last few years. Hope to up that time soon.
