I had this branch section labelled caragana, I think it came in a Paul Hind's box but could be mistaken. I liked the end grain but I only had half the branch. So since I had the bandsaw out I decided to make some thin slices to maybe use as accent trim. A little research reveals this is commonly called Siberia pea. My section appears to only have sap wood but it's still kind of interesting - cream color with yellowish grain stripes.
I also have a question - does anyone remember selling this little piece of stabilized burl to me? It was roughly 7" x 4" x 5/8" thick. Very dark purply color. I thinking about using it on a project and wanted to give credit where due but also to see if someone recalled what burl it is?

Caragana is often the same color throughout, having no distinct heartwood often.
Turned and oiled these today, cherry and maple
John, what is the major diameter and how long do you normally make them? Been wanting to try a few.
I make them in two sizes… 20 1/2 x 1 3/4” with a 10” flat barrel and 18 x 1 1/2” with an eight inch flat barrel.
Perfection in a stick x3!
Haven’t turned any plates/platters in a while. I’ve had this piece of maple under the lathe for months. About 11”. Oil/beeswax burnished in.
Wow, that's maple? Looks like walnut. Beautiful color and grain.
I've been making parts. Not sure they're all going to fit together when the time comes but I supposed that's what a sharp chisel, sand paper and bondo is for.

Roughed out a few today. First time turning Cumaru, it’s dense, dulls tools quickly and smells wonderful.
Mm. It looks kind of meaty. I have worked with it before and I wondered if it was edible. I didn’t try because of hardness but had it been as soft as say poplar or alder then I might have actually tried it. I am very happy I didn’t do it now. Young and stupid as they say.

Beautiful day outside today. I need to do something to better organize my bench so I made the skeleton for a 4 drawer cabinet today. Had plenty of plywood pieces so didn't need to buy anything. I have all these small pieces of wood I save and I'm thinking a couple of the drawers will be for those to get them off my bench. I'll also put little bits like those plastic containers of saw dust etc. I think I'll make two of the drawers with some adjustable dividers to I can keep stuff separated.

Don’t get me wrong, I “think about it” all the time, my problem is I just keep “thinking about it”. LOL
