What free wood did you find today?

Here is some Serviceberry. This is 7" diameter, at 40' stem length. Snow load snapped the top over. Waiting to find out what is next. The top was in the lawn of a client, the base is on the neighbor's property. Notice nearly zero heartwood. See the quarter for scale.

I have an Apple Serviceberry which has some awesome tasting berries. Biggest problem is the birds devour so many of them before they are fully ripe. I randomly pick as many as I can once ripe and eat them right off the tree. 👍

there is a red gum eucalyptus up the block from me that is girded every 2 1/2 inches vertically all the way around for about 45 feet worth of trunks and limbs, by a sap sucker wood pecker that spent a number of winters here

Neighbors had a birch tree that got hit by the birch bore two or three years ago. It came down today and when I got home I had these four pieces dropped off at my house. Think they will be slabbed tomorrow.

Helped a friend take down this Maple tree and cut it up. It is mostly going to firewood for folk. I did get some good pieces to turn something out of for them. My adopted grandkids are making believe the stump is a stove. The ripped shavings are like spaghetti, and the chips are sprinkles of Parmesan cheese.

Most of this came from a buddy of mine. Hickory, cherry burl, oak burl and spalted maple. I unloaded the dry pieces before we got more snow and rain to cover the rest. I plan on making a couple of bowls and a couple of cups as a thank you.

Hickory is getting to be a fun wood to turn for me. A little hard but sands really smooth.

I see her hickory has some canker. Will be neat to see if she uses it in a project.
Is canker the part that bulges out around the circumference? If so, that’s the reason why she wanted me to have it. Thought it would look cool.

That looks to me like it's wire that the tree grew around. Get a metal detector and see what it tells you. ............. Nubs
