What free wood did you find today?

I just got a big truck load of Norfolk Pine today for free, he said I was doing him a favor by taking it away. I told him I would make a bowl for him in exchange for the wood. This was about half a mile down the road, and all cut up, just load it up and take it home. Aloha.

Congrats! What a huge windfall of prized wood! Chuck

Chris, what is the plant to the left with the heart shaped leaves?
Not only have I been woodworking for a long long time but I also farmed Kava for a very long time. The plant you see in the back is a Hawaiian kava plant, in Hawaii we call kava "Awa". Have you ever tried kava? Aloha.

Nice Haul. If you were close, I would volunteer to guard this at night for you.

No, I have not. Just wondering if it was some other type of woody plant we never see mainland.

Here's my hoard of (fire)wood from Sardinia. A few unusual things like
- pistacia lentiscus
- phyllirea latifolia
- cytisus spinosus
- acacia saligna
- quercus suber
- ceratonia siliqua (these are everywhere as trees, but hard to find as wood; I added a photo of a big one)

i just spied a dead one of these ceratonia siliqua (carob) in the landscape around the corner from my house the other day, i think i'm going to ask if they want me to remove it.

Awesome haul! Other than the first and last one - I know nothing. The first I believe they produce a mastic with with they use as a flavoring - I think. Then of course the carob. Now, Lil Mikey has consumed many a chocolate shake in his past. But never has he ordered a carob shake. Just say'n!
Years ago, the only restaurant I have ever been involved with building was named Sardinia. The owner and the executive chef both native of and were raised in Sardinia. Awesome food and a fantastic Mediterranean wine list - but for some reason did not last too long - probably too close to a university and did not carry chicken tenders and cheap beer. Ever since dining there and talking with the owner and chef, (hard because of their strong accents) Sardinia is on my list of places Lil Mikey wants to go.

Well, I lack samples of the first three and have of the second three. Nice score.
If you wish I can try to cut samples when I mill the stuff.

Sardinia is on my list of places Lil Mikey wants to go.
Awesome beaches and loads of nice wood! Not much history though...

I also got
- quercus ilex
- melia azedarach
- nerium oleander

Plus I spotted a grevilea robusta tree!

i think it's actually the pod not the seed that tastes most like chocolate, i tried them right off the tree here

Paolo,

I have a sample of Nerium oleander, but mine is a 2 part laminate. Would like a solid sample some day.

Plenty good on the Melia.

I have a single sample of Quercus ilex taken next to pith, rift cut. A second flatsawn sample would be great.

Good on the Grevilea also.

Turns out I do not have any Quercus suber samples, just a piece of pen stock. So would love to buy a few samples.

Also see I do not have any Acacia salinga samples either.

And as said already, lack any samples of:
Pistacia lentiscus, Phyllirea latifolia, Cytisus spinosus
