What free wood did you find today?

Assume Pinus monophylla is your most common pinyon pine? Never worked any.
it is very similar to the ponderosa, grows side by side here, just lots smaller and a bit different bark

it doesn't have any twisting or gnarly character like the bristle cone. bristlecone stumps are quite recognizable

Guess I was to subtle, I was hinting interest in getting some of the P. monopylla...
Pinon is commonly sold here as firewood for chimnea's. It has a quite pleasant smell as it burns.

Thanks, Tony told me the same thing a few years ago. The issue he had was being able to identify it from other pines. Papershell pinyon, Mexican pinyon and Two needle pinyon are common in Texas. Knowing what is what is the issue. If you know for sure the species you have, interested in some. There basically 8 pinyon pines in the southwest US and another 4 south of the border.

i'll grad a stump, when i'm back up there

It fell from the sky - well not from 2,000 feet up but maybe 20’. It was free except I had to go buy some more 2-cycle oil. That stuff ain’t cheap anymore! Hackberry at least 80 years old maybe older. One of twin trunks died a few years ago when wifey thought it should be topped in the middle of July and I wasn’t strong enough or brave enough to say no. Some spalting but a good amount of punky areas plus a lot of bug tunnels.
But since Lil Mikey don't do nuthing - did it really happen?
