Okay, not your normal find, but we did find it and it was free. Wife’s friend got this and decided she couldn’t use it and it was offered up. My wife said mahogany and I jumped.
Very curious about the piece as it is sort of a butcher block. Box raises as many questions as does looking at this gorg table top.

Is that mahogany stain color rather than mahogany butcher block? Pretty grainy for mahogany.
i just got an 8 foot long one, similar build, no stain so i think mine is probably hard maple. i got mine from a friend who does liquidations, mine is split lengthwise down the middle, so I actually have 2
Mahogany in color. The ray fleck in the one piece looks like European Beech, being "reclaimed", you might have a few woods mixed in and maple is a good chance.
How thick is this slab? Would make a cool top for a workbench. Chuck

Great nephew spent a couple nights with us and today we took down a black locust to introduce him to the chain saw. Started cutting the tree, cut off a length, cut a bowl blank, rounded it on the band saw and roughed out a bowl. Next time he visits from WY we will finish the bowl.
All the marks above the chain saw were his aborted attempts to use an axe to cut down a tree. Black locust at 18°. There wasn't a chance of it happening, but he wouldn't believe me without trying.
The obligatory black light picture after we had blown each other off. Black locust is his favorite wood, primarily because it floresces with black light.
