What’s cooking in your kitchen?

Happy belated birthday. Have a slice for me if there is any left. The frosting sounds delicious. The cake should be edible as well...
It's been 10 years or more since I personally baked a cake. Not nearly as long since I did the frosting.

Yesterday I celebrated my 80th birthday by making myself a German Chocolate cake. Somewhere along the line, the Coconut Pecan frosting I make from scratch didn't come out like it has in the past. I cook and stir until I get to the soft ball stage, and then add the C&P's. When I added it to the cake, it was not as thick as it has been for the 40-50 cakes I've made in the last 30 years. Still as tasty as all of them, though.
That countertop it's sitting on was made back in 84, I think. Hard maple, with Red Oak bread board edging. Not one single split in the maple, but the Oak ends do the seasonal thing some times.

Yeah. Me too. We don’t make it often (even though my wife loves to bake and is german) but when we do it doesn’t survive long. The beauty of three growing kids is that they shovel everything up and leave no leftovers.

Typically, the north like whipped cream, the south like meringue. Both are good.

Layers
Box of vanilla wafers
4-5 ripe bananas

Pudding
4 eggs yolks
Cup sugar
1/3 c flour
4 cups milk
1 tablespoon vanilla
2 tablespoons butter

Meringue
4 egg whites
1/4 cup sugar

Make pudding without egg yolks, butter, or vanilla. Then temper yolks with a little bit of hot pudding and add yolks, butter, and vanilla. Layer wafers, sliced bananas and pudding. Top with meringue and bake at 350f till browned.

Can be served warm or cold.

Now if you’re a yankee, cool and use the whipped topping. Down south, it’s warm or cool with meringue. It eats regardless.

Allowing it to get cold makes those wafers become cake like. When cold, chocolate syrup takes it to the next level.

Looks awesome! Just noticed you're in Madison. Still crave the caramel cake at Primos down in Jackson, need to plan my drive to Texas next year so I can get some.
It’s outstanding. The 13 layer cake you can find here will make you wanna slap ya momma.

Indeed. Didn't go well for me, but I still want more. Maybe I'll slap @Tclem next time instead.
