All 10 inches of snow we got the past 2 days, disappeared last night.

Mt Bachelor and the high peaks in the Cascades got nearly 5 ft in the last 72 hours. We got a little 8" here. Still under winter storm advisory for the next 2 days and then we're supposed to hit the minus temps. But my new mosaic pin arrived today.

Yeah, a lot of moisture came in off the ocean. El Nino years are like this, sort of feast or famine. If we get cold air off the Gulf of Alaska and some warm wet air off the Pacific we can get a lot of snow. The Sierras get it more often than we do. I think Mt Bachelor now has over a 70" base (up from 28"). I'm a little surprised the weather people haven't mentioned avalanche worries. The wind has been in the 60-70mph up there so that snow has really gathered on the cornices and in the steep valleys. Combine that with the heavy wet frozen layer they had previously and I think it makes for ideal avalanche conditions.
Finally pulled the trigger on a new corded saw, my old one was getting beat up and abused from 15 years of hard use. I sure got my moneys worth out of the old one (it was a Makita too) I hope this one serves me as well as the last...

That's the saw that used to be a rental at the home depot. They do last. Has to be tough for a rental because people abuse anything rented. I have one in my shop too. Great saw.
Received a nice package today. Since did not have a piece of silky oak, decided to get me one.
Then unwrapped this pretty cool piece of Australian Blackwood
Then I unwrapped Insanity Itself!!!! Sheoak. Lil Mikey hurt himself picking hisself off the floor after hyperventilating - Pure insanity! Trees don't actually grow that way - do they?

That wouldn't have been from something called a "piss elm" would it?
To this day I'm not sure what a "piss elm club" is but I do know the damn free yardsticks were a $%^%$ and don't get me started about when the metric push happened. We had a thick metric stick in the broom closet. Gave him extra leverage and wouldn't break. Very important when you're beating your kids butt.
Naw it was a hickory and an oak that had low hanging limbs in the fence row...
And my Daddy was a carpenter as am I. So the threat of finding a spare piece of 2¼ door casing was real
I can't remember too many run ins after about 12 or so. We went to work with him full time when I was 13. By 19 I was running a crew when needed. But from about 4 years old to about 13 we lived on a farm and, well... Corrections and adjustments were given to the deserving if you worked hard and earned it.

Used (i'm the third owner) Thompson SRG came in the mail yesterday. Buried in the handle is a 3/4" round tang--that piece of solid V-10 bar stock should stand up against any catch i could make. Took it for a quick spin last night, very stable and i'm really going to love this tool. Heavy, but with great balance.

Hefty. And if you ever have a pesky stuck lug nut, you've got a nice cheater bar handy.
Buying that SRG second, or third, hand is the way to go Earl. The price for a new one on Doug's site is through the roof at $230 for the 1 1/4 gouge. And that's without a handle. Just the price of metal these days.
Still was pricy used, make no mistake--made my knees knock when i saw it. The SRG's don't seem to come to market used, so it was a rare opportunity. Really like the feel though!!
