In Brazil you can always find wood at garbage (near construction or refurbushed homes).
Look these pair of bench legs (one is already cuted)
Iron Wood ...in Brazil we call Pau Ferro (Libidibia ferrea)
One more bird

It is not easy to find more wood to save the bench legs

How they glued

You can see the line where they glued two parts.Almost tangent the hole

We can find the wood, but usually we are not allowed to remove from the dump site.
Here the dumpster is in front of home for easy acess for truck...you can choose and carry.
When is inside the property you ask permission and carry too ...if someone say no means that wood is not for you...find the next.

In some places the owner of dumpster know about quality wood and collect it for free (and sell expensive after).

That we had about 10 years back. I knew a local who worked at the dump. We couldn't collect from it, but the workers could. He ran a second hand furniture store out of what he found thrown away. No hard feelings for him, actually wish they would do that more. Save some room in our landfills if more people could do this.

This morning I went at our best wood seller in my state.Around 60 km (go and back).
I was there for buy some wood for another project...I found many long pieces of Goncalo Alves (70×30 mm) and pick one.

I am doing the birds and after finish the three "on the road" I want to fo more. They are a nice stuff and can fit any shelf or furniture as a decoration piece.Nice wood means nice birds. With care can last many and many years.

Gonçalo Alves (Astronium fraxinifolium)
Cutted to fit my car trunk

I am still looking for a way to make that curves faster than now...I need to make more birds.
I already had a Kunz spokeshave but it was too big.
I found one smaller at Aliexpress...they delivered yesterday and today I did some adjusts...and cuts at sacrifice wood. Worked very well.Only at next birds because these are almost done.Real tests soon.

The main reason to return to no power tools for curve shaping was a little scratch from the wire I used do lock sandpaper. When I was take off the smal drum I made a superficial cut at my skin. The potential was big....so I changed direction...I use woodworking for relax and peaceful time...not trouble.

Here the scratch cured and good (one week long to cure).

The number 01 cutted my hand...yoo close the chuck and I didn't see the potential sharp wire

I filed as far as possible but has deep marks I can't reach.
