I'm back...

I have at my wood stock some sticks ...20 years ago was fashion use wood sticks at woman hair.Tapered sticks.
I purchased these sticks at that time one step before tapered.
The wood is Violet Jacarandá and Louro Preto (I talked before about these woods here) .
Now I'll use just a few sticks and make something like a bird nest just for my daughter bird.
Add some straw and the bird under.

Some sanding work to do The sticks They have some square parts yet Both gourgeous wood This straw (that for protect fruits at boxes) Something like this...smaller for fit the bird size

Yes...I always add Brazilian name and scientific name.

Louro Preto-Cordia glabrata

Hello folks....at this time I would like to show one project I did almost 18 years ago.

This is a bench made drom a Brazilian wood called in Portuguese as "Louro Preto" (Cordia glabrata as scientific name).
This wood is forbidden to cut for a long time ago.


To be honest I don't like black or too dark woods for furniture...but was avaible in small pieces I took there for my project ...my father had there for almost 20 years when I pick for me.

Because my low skils at that time I did all joints using 3/8" (10mm) wood dowels...I have the Dowelmax and the precison is very impressive.

Pinho de Riga is a name also used for Larch, Larix decidua. Pinus sylvestris is rarly used in furniture for strength. Your wood looks more like Larch or one of the USA 'Southern Pines'. Larch splinters more, so I would lean towards a southern pine but not disclude Larch. I have milled much Pinus sylvestris, but all within a 600 mile radius so do not know variation beyond that.

I did one coat of linseed oil this morning.Just for show defects and wood grain.Sanded until 220 only.

Today I scraped two sticks to see how nice they can be.
Just a scraper and linseed oil. I'm "afraid" about sticks.They can catch the eyes more than bird itself.

Dremel drum can do a nice job here So nice Yo can see the hook This is the perfect tool for this. I loved

Creative to use scrapers to round the sticks! Results look impressive! Chuck

Just for clear.The guy who sold the sticks to me 20 years ago made the round part at a special machine for this purpose.He just cut square at close diameter size and made it round at one pass.
I only cleaned the "patina" using the scraper and add some linseed oil.

There’s a very interesting video by outdoor55 on how he sharpens his scrapers. Very very different technique. But much faster than “the traditional way” the title is somewhat exaggerated but he has got some interesting stuff to say.
