Aug/Sept Woodturning Challenge - Peppermill

Here is my entry. White oak from my daughter's place with a crush grind mechanism. The double beads are to help to make it look different from a similar mill so she can have a matched salt and pepper set.
Making this turned into quite an ordeal as it had been 3 years or do since I last made a peppermill and I had to re-learn all the critical dimensions, etc.

Well I rushed this set as I am doing very little turning at present. The guy grabbed them before I could get any quality photos. They are made out of Queensland Maple, not a true maple, but most Aussie timbers are named after other world timbers. The interesting feature of QMP is the way it refracts the light. These were cut out of the same section of the base of the tree. I make the identification rings out of HDPE and they are finished in Danish Oil. I only use Crushgrind mechanisms now. The balls on top are perfectly round, but distorted in the photo.

Couple of beauties there! Really like the HDPE(?) rings you inserted to identify salt & pepper. Is HDPE some form of plastic? Chuck

Great job on the ones so far. Have definitely given me idears. I woulda - I've got at least two mechanisms somewhere and even bought the forstner bit needed. Must all be laying under my piles of whoard somewheres.
