Ok, so I'm needing help. I have a Laguna 1412 bandsaw that I've had for a couple years. Never had any problems until lately. When I go to start it up, it starts slowly then throws the breaker. I changed out to a new breaker and still doing it. It has always started fine. I took the pulley off to check to see if the bearing was bad but it seems fine. Started the saw up with just the motor and it ran. Any suggestions?

Bad capacitor on the motor?

Yea. I just read about that. I'll get one ordered and see.

whathesaid what the people above said. Start capacitor. Also there's a switch Inside, I forget what it's called, but it's used on startup. It's a centrifugal mechanism.

Thanks. Haven't seen a switch inside but I'll go look.

Not recommending, but I had a similar issue with my bandsaw. I took the belt cover off and gave the belt a good tug and flipped the on switch. Worked fine. That told me the capacitor. Ran it that way until the new part came.

It's under the end cover, I can't remeber the name of it for the life of me, lol. But they often get plugged with sawdust.
Just Google electric motor centrifugal switch.

Just went through this. Centrifugal switch was my problem. Points were fried. The switch shuts start capaciter off. Very clever design.

This may be a stupid question but here goes. One says starting capacitor, so I figure this is what I need to order and try. So what is the other one for? 1000017704.jpg 1000017705.jpg

Found some on Amazon. Is there any particular brand I should get/stay away from?

Should I go ahead and change both while I'm at it?

Disregard...went ahead and ordered both. Be here Monday. 🤞🏻 this works. Gotta get wood cut for SWAT!

Not a bad idea while you have it apart. The run cap usually lasts longer than the start, but both degrade with time.

Any unusual rubbing sounds? Like a small off-cut wedged in the guide area under the table?? Can be a hard spot to see--and it's caught me a time or two--but only because of the noise. Since you say it started/ran as only the motor, i'd take a look for something causing drag. Just a thought.

Well, changed the capacitor and still a no go. Any ideas?

And I'm not happy with Laguna's customer service right now. Sent an email a while back and still haven't gotten a response. Guess I'll call them on Tuesday when I'm off because I know I'll probably be on hold forever.
