How's your day been?

Well the day is getting better. I had to make a new cord for my generator hook up. I used the old cable but I had to change both plugs. Once that was done off to the gas station to fill the cans. Whole house is energized and I'm running 2 ac's and the fridge a light as needed.the generator is pretty good size, 10,500 watts surge and 7,000 watts running. At least I can come i side and cool off now.

2 air conditioners running, fridge, and a couple of fans and it's only at 43% good little generator, a bit loud though, not like a honda. I bought this many years ago when they threatened us with a major ice storm that never happened. Glad I still have it. House is nice and cool and the food in the fridge didn't spoil.
First time I ever used it, or needed too.

I've never had a generator, so curious, how much gas will you go through in a 24 hr period? Just thinking for the day when I may get one.

Kinda depends on the size. I had a 5,000 watt that would run overnite on about 5 gallons. This is a big unit and it has burned through about 6 gallons in 8 hours. Ill dump another 6 gallons in it before I go to bed tonight.

you have it set up outside, away from any air intakes that might let exhaust into your house correct?

many people have died from carbon monoxide poisoning overnight from generators in the garage

Yup, I'm old not stupid:sarcastic:

I grew up with a generator somewhere in the shop. We did mostly remodeling along with anything else somebody asked my Dad to try. Sometimes barns and new construction sites wouldn't be set up yet. So when our power would go out Daddy would pull out a couple extension cords and power up the fridge and freezer. That was about it. The rest of the house got ignored.

Lets see - I'm one week and two days into retirement, and been very busy doing things for wifey that I'd previously promised, doing things she can't do because she is still in recovery, going to Dr appointments about treatments, and rebuilding the yard ( im.inside now because it is sprinkling). Well, I've come up with a new "life verse". Haven't yet found it in the Bible , and until I do I will call it Lil Mikey 70:7! The verse? -- Always do your work in the shade! Man, its been hot and muggy since R-Day!
We believe the shade part, not so much the work part. What evidence have we?

Had a 6500 that was running pretty much full load for days. It was pretty darned cold and did not want it to run dry, so every 5 hours or so I'd top it off. Probably took 2 or 3 gallons. Had to go to the gas station every day fill up the 5 gallon gas cans
