How's your day been?

Glad it all worked out Tim. Thank goodness they didn’t have to spend all day digging and back-filling. Labor is the biggest expense.

I think it was good to go poly all the way to the hydrant. Will never corrode. I’m sure they dumped some washed rock around the base. Serves a few important purposes.
Number 1 - allows draining of the water out of the standpipe, and into the stone, when the hydrant is shut-off. If it’s only dirt, the drain holes eventually clog.
No.2 - the stone generally keeps soil away from the steel elbow and hydrant at the base. Some soils are corrosive to steel and the washed rock is typically not.
No 3. - stability. The rock is typically shoveled around the base and a couple feet up around the hydrant and the the hydrant is held plumb when backfilling. Much better than relying on soil by itself.

If you let it go through a winter, the ground should settle pretty well with the rain and snow. Will be ready for maybe a little topsoil and seed in the spring.
There's probably a two foot cylinder of pea gravel starting about a foot deeper than the elbow and going up above the valve/drain. Found the same when I dug around the original.

I'll definitely spread some grass seed on it, but not going to bother with any topsoil, if what grows stays green, that's fine by me. As it is, I'll have to spray it a couple times before winter to keep the weeds down. After it dries, I'll probably run the tiller over it to even out the soil and break up clods, and may just seed it this fall and leave it. Not in an area that is visible from the house, and as long as I don't trip walking over the area, don't care that much. It was a mix of grass, knotweed and misc other weeds that was mowed every couple of weeks to begin with.

I am involved with selling wood to woodworkers and Woodturners. We have a retail store in Batavia, IL.

Me and a couple buddies also sell woodturning wood at local (Chicagoland) symposiums. For the past few years we sell at Turn on Chicago (TOC) and the Midwest Pen Turners gathering.

We were at TOC the past 3-days and had some good sales. We’re pretty involved/active members of both the Chicago Woodturners and the Windy City Woodturners.

Well organized booth. That is the bane of shows, limited space. Can't stack it too full or folks can't see your products, can't leave too much space or they think you don't have anything...

Went on a scooter ride with a couple of riding buddies today. Went from north of Detroit to Toledo to Tony Packos for lunch.
We stopped at a honda dealer to look at the toys and stretch our legs.

Looks small on the outside but it seats a lot on the inside. Good hungarian food. Known for a special hungarian hot dog. I had a delicious hot roast beef sandwich.

The tv show mash kinda made this place famous. Corporal Klinger mentioned them often.

Mounting up for the return trip home. Did 175 miles round trip. My scoot got 50 mpg.

It got much hotter than they expected, made it to 89, maybe the 90s, and feels like was over 100. We stopped twice on the way back for cold drinks. Was a great day riding though.

This is a survey. :sofa:
Today, I decided I wood boil some eggs. So, I set up a small pan, put the eggs in it and decided I would wait around until the water started boiling. It took about 10 minutes maybe. I got smart and left the kitchen after I set the timer for another 10 minutes for them to cook.
Now, the survey question is; "What would be more exciting to watch, Paint drying or water going from cool to boiling"?
That's it, folks. .................. Nubs

I'll take PAINT for a $1000 Alex.

A style of painting that is considered erotic.

What is body painting?

If you've ever forgotten and let all the water evaporate out of that pan you know there's no contest which can result in more excitement. Don't ask me how I know.

I'll go with grass growing....

Well since I dont multi task well I'm putting the boat on the back burner until next year. So I'm pumping the fuel out of the 50 gallon tank. It has been stabled so its still good, but I have my doubts if it would be by next spring. So I'll pump it out and run it in my truck
I got this pretty slick 12v pump off Amazon. It'll pump 6 gallons in about 8 minutes. It's all self contained in a plastic box, even has a remote on off switch.
20260811_140506.webp
It came with the hoses and 2 fuel filters. So I'm pumping out filtered fuel, pretty cool. I attached the pickup hose directly to the fuel line coming out of the tank.

I pumped out 24 gallons of fuel today, filled my truck tank! And there is still a little under a half tank left in it. At today's gas prices this is kinda a bonus. Of course re filling the tank next year will suck! But at least I dont have to worry about the fuel going bad and then trying to figure out how to get rid of it.

It was a long sleepless night reaching into today after a 10 hour ER stay. Ending first, everybody is fine.

Mom will be 90 in a couple of months and has the typical litany of issues and meds (including blood thinner). About 4 days ago her shoulder really started bothering her to the point of not being able to do much with that arm. Figured it was just a pull or a strain and would get better with some rest. She'd been sleeping in a lift recliner for support, but last night, no matter what I did, or what pain killers she took, it was getting worse. I hadn't been to bed yet, and at 3:00 am I finally convinced her to go to ER. We jumped the line when we got there as an elderly woman with shoulder pain radiating down the arm is a warning sign for heart attack -which we both knew it wasn't, but you have to have all the tests to make sure. Complete blood workup including cardiac enzymes and EKG. All negative, but sit and wait about an hour for blood tests and on call cardiologist to review. Next up, X-ray to rule out a break. Another hour to wait for radiology report - negative.

At this point they finally actually probed and looked at the shoulder, and kept asking about falls or trauma to the shoulder, which neither of us could point to anything. About this time, we hit the 7 am shift change so for a while new set of doctors and nurses. After that, decided to do a CT scan to look for hidden breaks and soft tissue damage and check for cervical issues. Hour wait for CT and another hour wait for radiology report. No breaks, no visible soft tissue tears, but area of fluid buildup. Now we wait for a Ortho consult.

Ortho Doc recommended draining fluid, so now we wait for the main OR Doc and her PA to find time and set up the procedure. They finally put her in a gown and I got my first look at her shoulder and couldn't believe the bruising. I'd never looked at the shoulder as Mom always wears long sleeve shirts, and I had just reached through the neck of the shirts to rub Asper Cream for her. Mom had never looked at the shoulder as it was painful and it was all she could do just to change shirts.

Finally get going and drain 25ml of what looks to be blood. Some relief, but by this time we are both uncomfortable and irritable from lack of sleep. No discharge yet, as need to have another consult with Ortho doc, and they want the fluid analyzed to make sure there isn't something "funky" going on. Takes another hour for the blood analysis, but guess what, the Ortho doc is now in surgery and still need a consult from him.

Finally, just before 1:00 pm the ER Doc comes in to discharge and get a sling fitted. Closely followed by 4 nurses that almost pushed us out the door getting the room ready for one of the many other patients laying on beds in the hallway.

Will wear the sling for 2 days and should be good to go. Got home and both of us crashed for 4 hours. Woke up to eat and now try to stay awake until normal bed time to reset sleep schedule.

Bottom line, it's hell to get old, but beats the alternative. Also if you are caring for the elderly, or yourself, it's amazing how fast you learn about the meds, conditions, tests and treatments.

Hoping and praying for relief from pain, adequate rest, and a full recovery. Going to the ER is never a good experience, and you just had a miserable one! Chuck

Thanks Chuck. She's feeling much better after a long afternoon nap, and a couple days of resting the shoulder in a sling will do wonders.

Just goes to point out one of the many things you have to watch out for when someone is on blood thinners. We always worried about cuts, and bruises are unavoidable. Biggest worry is still a bump to the head or a fall, but will also be watching now for bruises/pain in joint areas.

I sat on the back porch and watched a forestry mulcher clear the woods on the back of our property. Worth every penny.

As a bonus, he opened up his sawmill to me because he wants a 15” walnut bread bowl like his mother had. There were all sorts of crotches piled up and he will cut some big blanks and we will have at it. He wants to learn to turn so it’s a good friendship I made.

I finally got the boat set on its new used trailer today. Much nicer trailer, disc brakes, torsion axle 2 5/16" ball instead of 2", steps to stand on, bigger tires and wheels, spare tire. 20260813_152455.webp
I have to adjust the bunks a little to get it to sit flat instead of on the chines. Minor job. Ill probably slide them forward a bit also.
20260813_152441.webp
Old roller bunk trailer will be sold.
20260813_160429.webp
This just doesnt support the boat as well as a trailer with 6 bunks. This would make a heck of a utility trailer, lol.

After 3 failed attempts, I finally got my container delivered. Geez. Guy was good too, stuck back in the trees right where it needed to go.
