How's your day been?

It's been the worst flooding here since 1911, we got more rain last week than all of the precipitation of the last year combined.

Beautiful fall day here in Michigan, 68 degrees and comfortable outside. Sitting on the patio and looking up at my tree and enjoying its fall color. I think this was Wednesday, I forgot to hit send, lol.

Saturday Halloween ride with the scooter boys. We went to stockbridge michigan for breakfast at the town diner. Stopped in gregory since the town and I share the same name. And since its Halloween we went to Hell Michigan. Did 159 miles. It was chilly in the 40s when we started but it warmed up nice to around 60, it was pleasant.
The red white and blue crew.

No tricks.....

Only Treats!

We haven't had a trick or treater show up here since nephews and niece were kids almost 30 years ago. Never stopped up from buying a bag or two of our favorite candy. Decided though we needed a treat, so made a batch of caramel corn to finish off the night.

It's always a gamble - do I wait for all the leaves to fall before picking them up? If I do, I risk getting rain or snow and the leaves turn into a sticky layer that is impossible to pick up.

I do it weekly and just suck them up with the lawnmower. Also they grind up better when they are dry.

If you have the equipment to do so, it's easier (and better for the soil) to mulch them. Of course that depends on whether or not you get the weather for them to dry.

No argument that mulching up the leaves and grass clippings is best - keeps all those nutrients and stuff in the ground. But we're not allowed by HOA rules to have a compost area or one of those rotary composters unless we can totally enclose it. It's a weird contradiction too. The HOA board are generally pro environment, don't harass the deer, no non natural stuff like wire screens around bushes, etc etc. But their true priorities come out when it's something they'd have to see as they drove around the neighborhood, like a composter or your propane tank or trash bin storage. So I pick up the leaves.

A couple months ago I asked a few of you about setting minimum bids on some boxes I donated to a place called Healing Reins for their big annual fund raising auction. I got some great advice and wanted to thank you all - you know who you are. I stopped at their office today to pick up any boxes that didn't sell so they weren't cluttering up their space. The lady told me that every box sold, and every box went for more than minimum bid. If they got only minimum bids I set, they would have netted $650 I think. She didn't have the totals handy but she said they did very well. So thank you to those who helped me set prices. Now I kind of wish I had set them even a little higher. I guess for tax purposes, I can only value the donation at what I priced them for, not for what they sold for.

Big congrats!
