Member Pictures . . .

It's been a minute...
1. In Houston, watching the best game ever with about 50 other fanatics.
2. Boy Scout awards ceremony - the boy was officially ranked up to Star.
3. I have to admit the whole experience of watching a AAA ball team beats all the fuss of the big league stadium.

Subvet10… hats off to you submarine veterans. Don’t know how you do it. My place of business builds level 1 sub safe products for Electric Boat.

@Ray D My usual response is flying on a packed airplane is worse to me. But the whole experience is near indescribable. We should have a masters in naval construction, an unlimited mariner's license and many other certs - we learned every valve, breaker, switch and drop of fluid, the functional drawing and how to find it in the dark (within six months). There's 20 firehoses, 44 alarm stations, etc etc etc. A constant question is "you walk into a compartment and everyone is dead - what are your immediate actions." Then you add in (pre-internet) deployments of between 10 days and 10 months, 12-18+ hour days in a steel pipe with 180 other 2nd sons, loners and non-conformists.

One percent of one percent of the population served on Submarines during the war. We had a casualty rate of 50%. Yet accounted for 90% of the Japanese tonnage. An army marches on its stomach. Not to discount the heroics of the Army and Marines in Europe and the Pacific but our forebears were critical in destroying the supply lines. Including two boats who earned the right to but a bus and a train on their battle flags.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. And I'll end with this: I am very grateful for what I did, and how I am viewed in public and at Scout meetings. There's two generations before that were not treated kindly. We all have our legacy and how we choose to measure up the opportunities we were given by those before.
