The only drawback to smaller items is that it's much harder to show off figure. Great job in a small space there.

So here is the box I was waiting on. It is made from plum wood. The dimensions are 5 1/8” x 3 7/8” x 3”tall overall. Finished with a heavy coat of shellac and buffed out with 0000 steel wool.
The thing about this box is I saw someone offering small plumb wood limbs. I went and took it all and dried it. One of the things I do when I get free wood is to make a box out of it and give it to person. People like that.

Ah. I like it. I find the more simple shapes show more complex woods better. I do find that this one looks “visually top heavy” if you know what I mean. Probably a product of those massive hinges. The box is very good though.

So here is a small box I made while waiting for a glue up to dry. The body is lightly figured maple. The lid is a piece of Dog wood I believe. The dimensions are 4 3/8” x 2 1/2”x 2 1/8” tall.

Here is my latest box. It is made with figured maple. The dimensions are 7”x5”x3”tall. It is finished with a heavy coat of shellac and buffed out with 0000 steel wool and buffed out with a brown wax.

Your finish prep has definitely improved. I see no tear out or sanding marks.

Good box. I really like the lid.

Sometime soon I will be getting my business license and will start selling boxes again.

The purples specifically make me suspicious of dogwood. Lilac? Plum you would probably recognise.

The dimensions are 6 3/4” long by 4 3/4” wide by 3” overall tall The finish is Watco natural oil and buffed out with a dark wax. The hinges are cheap ones. The lid stays closed with magnets.

It looks good. It could have done with a touch more contrast near the lid. Maybe walnut splines? Also, a tip for the miters: If you add a thin piece of wood in between the two pieces of wood you are gluing you can taper it to correct any misalignment. It also looks good with contrasting wood.
