Received a box of seagrape today and already turned and hollowed one! Fresh from 3 minutes in the microwave here. Still wet and heavy.

Saw one of these being made on Youtube. Had to try it. Made from maple with markers for color.

Only had a couple days in the shop this week.
Decided to punch out some thank you projects to the couple that gave me the Russian olive wood. The tree was taken from a nursery that we buy flowers from occasionally.
Also made a project for a sister in law who recently lost her beloved pet.
After that got out of the wood shop and prepared for winter! Boo!

My other piece hasn't cracked yet. I'm going to let it dry for a while till I turn it. Have another piece coming also.
Nice snow handler. Do you run chains as well or do the turf tires work for you?
Question....going to sound bad, but, are you sure that is Russian olive..?... Looks a lot like ash. Russian olive usually only has a few growth rings of sapwood (whitish) and then the rest is heartwood (brownish).

I have chains but don't normally need them.
All I can say on the wood is that's what the nursery called it. I didn't question it. They all look the same to me unless the color is different. Lol!

The rounds you posted match 'Ash', not Russian olive. The bark and the galleries are spot on for Emerald ash borer damages. Russian olive is a slow grow in your area. A 10" diameter tree often takes about 50 years. Your growth ring count looks to be nearly half that. You did a great job on those products, but they are not what you were told. Not sure why they mislead you, unless you took the wrong wood or something. If you use the search option for Russian olive (upper right), you will see several examples of the wood. Hobbit house has some great pictures as well. See link below.

Thanks! I agree. Looks more like ash than olive. I will ask them on Tuesday if they show for breakfast. Was wondering why it didn't have more color.

A few pics I stole off his Facebook page. It sat outside unprotected for 5 years before purchase. Engine and interior were shot. Wheels, tires and brakes were missing parts.
It is repowered with a small diesel out of a Ford Ranger. They are upgrading the axels to modern parts also.

Was given a box of free wood consisting of Zoita, Guatambu, Castello Boxwood, San Domingo Boxwood, and Loro Negro. None of them were labeled. I grabbed two pieces and made a needed mallet.
I would actually be interested in the botanic names of these. I know Castello boxwood and san Domingo boxwood but the other three are at this point in that name unknown to me.
