I would actually be interested in the botanic names of these. I know Castello boxwood and san Domingo boxwood but the other three are at this point in that name unknown to me.
The person I got the wood from is in Texas and bought a pickup truck load of it for 900 bucks. That's all the info I have.

Found this with some googling:
Guatambu is a dense hardwood from South America, also known as Pau Marfim or "Ivorywood,

What he heard-loro negro. What it actually is: Louro Preto is a dense, durable hardwood prized for its stunning
visual contrast and ease of use. Its rich, dark heartwood sharply contrasts with lighter sapwood,

Zoita wood, also known as Zoita Ibatingui or Luehea divaricata, is a dense, honey-colored hardwood from
South America prized for its strength and workability.

Wonder if the “loro negro” could actually be Hormigo Negro. Chuck

Saw this project on the Youtube channel for Ultrawoody. Made up a quick prototype out of scraps.
I did turn the wheels so it fits here.

Were spacers on the original? What are they made of?
The original didn't have spacers, just a rubber gasket. The new handles wouldn't fit in the door as they are not correct for the model. I made them out of beech.

This months challenge on the other site is to turn something that hangs on a wall. I decided to go off the deep end as usual!

Winter's night in 3D.

Turned the moon from mappa burl. Turned the bushes in one piece then split in half with the bandsaw. The tree is a random branch I found outside.
Side pic here showing 3D effect.

Tons of creativity there! Out of curiosity, what is the other site you referred to? Chuck

Interesting. So basically you don’t pay for wood at all? I could get some free poplar but not much else because everyone thinks that their tree is worth money. (They aren’t)
It depends on where you live. Out here in my portion of Colorado I can load you up on blue-stained, beetle killed pine by the truck load, and plain Aspen which can have some interesting figure. But no, not all of us have incredible maple, cherry, oak, ash (I know ash is dying), and the possibility of burls, in the backyard. But yes, we are very fortunate in areas to have incredible options for wood.

Grrr. Lucky!

Not sure if it's allowed to list other sites here. Don't want to get in trouble.

Phil, Phil, Phil....

You've been here long enough to know the unofficial law of WB is to "ask for forgiveness rather than seek permission".

And to answer your question, it is perfectly fine to post links to other sites here. The only thing that is frowned upon is to use WB as a mouthpiece to b*tch and complain about other woodworking forums.

This!

And if you get your wrist slapped, you simply blame @Mike1950 , that you saw him do it and thought it was ok. The :old: won't remember what he did (or didn't do) and may even throw a little tantrum. But that'll be enough to distract interest away from you and you're in the clear. Works every time for me.
